Good evening folks. Thinking I should have stepped up to 40w oil instead of the HPL 5w30 HDEO oil. When running errands and engine is hot; when started back up it’s kinda clackity. Thinking either HPL 15w40 or something like M1 10w40HM or even ST Syn 15w40. What say BITOG faithful. Truck doesn’t burn or leak oil either

@53' Stude we had a Durango with a 4.7L back in the day. It was very much the same. I tried the good old faithful Lucas oil stabilizer with no success. It still was rattley. I think you will be fine with your current recipe or upping your game to a W40.

5W or 10W-40

How many miles on the 3.9? Noise a sudden thing or slow onset?

Agree with others, run any x-40 and see how it sounds.

Derp, saw your sig. definitely 40 weight time.

Thinking of the ST Syn 15w40 or even ST 0w40. Providence 5w40 is like $20~ these days
That’s true! Either one of those would work just fine. I’m hoping Rural King puts theirs on sale here soon so I can stock up on the Providence for my in-laws cars since I’m taking over their maintenance. It’s usual about $17 when they do.

Does it do it from a cold start? If not, it's not the exhaust.

Could be bleed-down, how long does it do it for and what filter is on it?

I’m thinking it’s exhausting as went to rural King and then AAP. after it’s hot I start it and I just hear exhaust tick.

Well, I got gallon of this as it’s $16.99

Their Synthetic 5w40 is $22.99 so that isn’t happening. VOA of this coming soon.

Sad that ROTELLA T4 10w30 is only $12.99 at Rural King too

I would probably lean towards the exhaust with that many miles and years. My 2000 Ram 4WD with the 5.2L/318ci,, never made a clacky noise from the time I purchased it in 2010 with 62K miles until I sold it with just rolling 93K acpouple years ago. Basically the same engine group -- Magnum engine with 2 more cylinders. Only difference I ever noticed was using an oversized SuperTech oil filter --- made a strange noise from time to time when first started after sitting. Went back to a Fram Ultra and noise went away soo thats what I stuck with.
