Bought a little Chinese inverter generator (800 wats power, 1KVA), as when we had the out of season snow dumps last year, the town had no power for most of a day.

We have gas cooktops (matches allow you to light), and gas heating and hot water....both of the latter need power for the ignitors and fan...800W is way more than enough to keep us showered and warm.

I was impressed with the oil guidelines, as it's along the lines of what I've been saying for ages regarding straight weights, HTHS, and multigrades.

Yah, but multi grades shear easier. OPE oil gets misted in the crankcase with a rod with a scoop on it for an oil pump. And exposed to high temps. A lawn mower should run best on straight 40 oil.

PS I'm thinking of moving from old BMWs to old Lexi, How do you like your '94 400?

is it? I have a 2 stroke one that keeps on running like forest gump.

OP is from Australia, so I don't think its a Harbor Freight unit he is posting about.
The HF 800w units are still 2 stroke.

A quality multi-grade will not shear outside the specification of an air cooled engine. With that said, the quality of an oil will affect long term performance. It's like the difference in miles an old VW will go with crummy oils vs. oils designed for high temp capabilities. Personally, I'll spend the extra money to rebuild an air cooled VW at 150k+ miles vs rebuilding at 65-100k miles.
