I got my hands on some of this new kendall "liquid titanium" containing oil (the 10w30 hi mileage variety, from pep boys). I noticed the stuff has a strong sulfur smell to it. I'm guessing the liquid ti is titanium sulfide; indeed, "Titanium disulfide has been proposed as a solid lubricant. The coefficient of friction between steel surfaces is .3 compared to .2 for molybdenum disulfide. However, because it does not adhere strongly to metal surfaces, TiS_2 is generally less effective than molybdenum disulfide," according to pg 48 of

If it is in fact Ti disulfide, this additive would have one or two things going for it versus moly disulfide. 1. concentration is higher by 3x or more (~1000 ppm according to kendall specs' pdf, vs typically ~300 ppm for typical moly additive fortified oil. And secondly, possibly, 2. slicker coeff of friction is not necessarily superior for antiwear (for example, zddp has a high coeff of friction but is a superior anti wear additive--maybe intuitively once can visualize a spongy springy type of material that would be a great antiwear buffer material between the two hard steel surfaces).
