About time!

http://thekneeslider.com/harley-davidson...t-twin-cam-103/

I imagine this is only the beginning and more models with come similarly equipped.

Cool!

Can they make one with a muffler next?

Harleys come from the factory with proper exhausts, no louder than any other make. It's the clowns atop them (and many other makes) who've made them louder .

Are the radiators outside of the frame rails?

That's going to be interesting.

reshaped fairing lowers improve venting of air to the rider and passenger.

What air? The radiator's?

I've always felt like my liquid cooled bikes transmitted more engine heat to me. Even though my GSX-R had a larger oil cooler than the radiator on my ZX600C and no real provisions for redirecting the air away from the rider it was still cooler than the Ninja.

The XZ550 Vision V-twin felt hotter at low speeds than my GPz550 did. The Vision was brilliant at freeway speed though. Smoother than the GPz. But it would bake you at parking lot speeds.

Probably one of the biggest reasons some type of active engine temperature management will become more common in the design of motorcycle engines is that such systems aid in reducing undesirable emissions. And the regulations governing emissions from all types of internal combustion engines continue to be more demanding as years go by, including future requirements that are even more demanding than present emissions restrictions.

Also, automatic transmissions, or something similar to an automatic such as CVT, or Hondas DCT probably will also become more common as they provide more MPGs, and lower emissions. Probably the only way to get the anti pollutions groups totally off the backs of motorcycle riders will be something like an electric bike, or something with a fuel cell powering an electric motor.

And don't jump all over me for mentioning it, but this all assumes that motorcycles will still be allowed when all vehicles on public roads are autonomous. Don't laugh, motorcycles are not allowed on public roads in Germany, and if one democratic country can outlaw motorcycles on public roads, it may be possible in others.

Ditto on that. Way ahead of it's time, that machine...

Exactly. I always appreciate a Sunday nap that is rudely interrupted by some idiot on his underpowered and overpriced motorcycle.

Since I'm from Illinois, that idiot might be me.

Thats completely false. Where did you hear/read such a thing?

Lots more information in the Project Rushmore Thread.

This system is ONLY on touring rigs with the knee fairings.

Well only the heads are liquid cooled on the new Rushmore Twin Cam's. I do not know why this comes as a shock to everyone, I mean the company has had a liquid cooled bike for over a decade in the VRSC line.

Yeah Harley has had the liquid cooled V-Rod on the market for over a decade, but it wasn't through H.D's ingenuity that they came about this motor, they had to go to Porsche and have them design the motor. From what I've seen of this "new" design it is as earlier stated simply designed to cool the heads, which interestingly enough quite heavily resembles BMW's oil cooled passages designed to reduce head temps formulated decades ago once again by the Germans.

I heard it on one of the motorcycle building shows. The customer wanted to run it here because they were not allowed where he lived.

I seriously apologize for posting incorrect information. Live and learn. Sorry about that.

BMW liquid cooled their boxer engine this year after being air cooled since 1921. Of course they are getting around 115 HP out of a 1200cc twin.

I believe they are claiming 125 hp out of the Boxer with the l-c heads. In all fairness, it must be said that the Boxer has its cylinders (and more importantly its cylinder heads) jutting out into the air, providing greatly enhanced access to cooling air......

Moto Guzzi is still air-cooled, is a V-twin, and has both of it's cylinder heads jutting out into the air.
