Liqui-moly safe for ‘14 3.5EB w/ 46k?

Contemplating using a can of the liqui moly proline engine flush into the ‘14 3.5EB with 46k before doing my OC this weekend.

It has had a couple startups with the phaser clatter, very mild. I usually use Napa full synthetic 5w30.

Would this be a good idea or should I be looking at using the restore and protect that is popular right now instead ?

Not sure what your thinking is here. This engine does not have huge mileage, but certainly has a propensity for failure at higher mileage. I don’t think that flushing with Liqui Moly Proline or starting a cleaning process with Valvoline Restore and Protect is going to do much to resolve phaser clatter. I would consider the benefits of LM Ceratec or MOS2, especially the latter, which will quiet things down while protecting the engine (probably). The oil you are using is not terrible, but given your situation would spend just a little more and get a high mileage Mobil 1, or PUP, or Liqui Moly. No harm in edging up a grade. If you can swing it, HPL and Amsoil are no regret purchases. Best wishes. Oh, and if you have not done so yet, commit to a 5,000 mile interval.

Care to recommend me some? 6 quarts 530
are you interested in it being API SP?
Mobil 1 ESP 5w30

if "meets or exceeds api SP engine tests" is good enough for you. (it is for me)
Mobil 1 ESP 0w30.

I should have a used oil analysis on it shortly in my 24 outback with the FA24DIT engine (turbo)

It's fine to use. Try it.

If it’s a mechanical issue nothing will help. If it’s sticking due to deposits I’d highly recommend R&P 5W-30. Probably what you should be running in the Subaru anyway. It’s a slow clean and will also clean your piston rings to help with oil consumption.

You asked about an additive. 10 years ago id be all for it. Now I recommend saving the money and do 5,000 drain intervals, and 2 minute cool downs after working it hard. If the phasers fail, it was going to fail anyways. Also you can opt to pull the VCT solenoids out every 60k and manually clean the screens. That would be better than an engine flush.
