life time filter?

Is it just me, or is the critical info missing .... You know .... BETA info? "X"% at "Y"um size or something like that!
The "filter specs" link only takes you to the page which brags about their construction; nothing about the job of filtration.

I see claims about increasing HP (cuz that's a filter's primary role in the engine).
I see claims of increasing oil flow "two to three times" ( what a load of bovine manure ...)
I see claims about increased fuel economy (again, a filter's primary role, right?)

For goodness sake, the first 12 FAQs are about ordering and shipping and payments .... Sure, it's more important to discuss how to get and pay for your uber expensive filter than to discuss what it actually is supposed to do in terms of filtering.


Unless there's some independent credible lab data showing actual filtration efficiency in a reasonable and desired range, I'd stay FAR away from this filter.

The filter that fits my Highlander & Sienna would cost $230. Plus, I'd have to spend another $25 for a quart of their cleaning fluid.
That's a lot of cash to spend (plus more on the cleaning fluid when it runs out) on an oil filter that would cover no more than 30 oil changes (given how many miles I already have on these cars).

They have a Specs page, but it just lists the various parts of their filter.

It claims to catch more contaminants than a "disposable" filter, and to "clean your oil better than a disposable filter" where is the proof of this, it doesn't even give any efficiency information.

Without that information it is something I would not even consider.
 
I need to make a 'canister' style so I can just screw it on to the regular disposable's site. Take cover off ('top' which points up about 45*) & throw ina new canister. This one is the closest I've seen to that (which isnt 'very'). Amisol is nice but 'remote' style (I dont want).
Ideas?
This is an i6 ford from '60 to '96 (ol "ThriftPower").
Lota wrk & machine time but a pipe (or other cylinder) could B threaded at both ends, one internal so I could unscrew to throwin new cartridge. Other end to accept the internal threads the disposable uses. I need to get a lill fancy there for the drain back...
Also (speakin of which) I like the disposable as it has anti-drail back valve so the engine/filter have oil @ start up.
 
sorry, thats 50%+, but also easier (done standing beside) & less chance for spillage (this '66 bronk has enuff room to hold a catch pan there as the soppy canister is removed).

Yep, marketing claims for people that don't know any better. As you and most here know, "Increased flow" doesn't occur on an engine with a PD oil pump unless the pump is in relief. It might give "more flow" on a house's water system compared to a more restrictive filter, but a house watering system isn't supplied by a PD pump ... it's supplied by a fixed head pressure.

In a race car, a filter like this may be beneficial if the oil pump is high flow, and/or the car is raced with thicker oil. Or in a drag strip use condition where the oil may not be at full operating temperature when the car goes down the 1/4 mile at redline.

If you run the hydraulic HP equation between an oil filter that has 6 PSI dP vs one with 3 PSI dP, it saves like 0.05 HP, if that. Increased HP, lol.
 
I prefer my oil filter media to be made of non-abrasive materials. Who knows if some of these filters shed some of the stainless steel filter media.

The extra o-ring is an additional failure point, and they need to be replaced periodically, at $25 for a kit with an unspecified number of o-rings.

The only thing I like about this filter is that the filter internals can be inspected without cutting and junking the filter, which might be useful if you wanted to frequently monitor the filter while cleaning up a dirty engine with additives or something. What I really wouldn't mind paying extra for is a transparent oil filter.
 
Between this filter and the K&P I can understand the interest in these.

Looks like they both have mags.

Neither are for me personally but they are certainly interesting discussion pieces that appear extremely well built using precise machine and extensive post polishing.

These wire mesh cleanable and resusable oil filters are good for racing applications IMO. Just like K&N air filters. Used in engines that are beat hard and get worn-out faster anyway and get rebuilt when required.
