Ok, here i was digging arounf the net for parts on my geo prizm. I came across a lifetime Filter made by Royal oil filters, anybody heard of them or have experience with this brand? Ummm...there is an oil filter section.
If you hate changing your oil filter then you will really hate this thing. It is a reusable filter, and needs to be cleaned instead of replaced. You take it off, take it apart, clean it, then reinstall it. Not for the lazy as it increases the work to be done on an oil change.

LOL! Nothing lasts a lifetime IMHO and that includes your automobile, your automobile engine, and what-not.
If you think you can install a lifetime oil filter (LOL! does that ever exists?) and be over with it, think again. As dirt, debris, insolubles from lubricant deterioriation clogs up your oil filter, you will have to either replace it or take it off to wash.
If your excuse is due to downright laziness, you may might as well forget it and resort to either 10min lube job or stealership oil and filter change every 1/2 year.

Geez it seems like it would be a ton easier just to replace it every time, it would be a lot less hassle than cleaning it every time.

well I shouldn't have said lifetime, as you clean, the filter element instead of throwing it away. I'm not lazy, as i change the filter ( I always use purolator) on my prizm and it still runs well with 146,000 on the odometer. I suppose this might be a better application for racecars? Does anybody think that the filtering properties would be horrible with this kind of Filter i.e. similar to a K&N air filter? my appologies for comming across as ignorant. I don't see to many reusable type oil filters discussed.

I'd rather have lifetime skivvies.
Any filter is a "lifetime filter" if you leave it on.

How much does this lifetime filter cost? Why would you want to clean an element?

'prizm - lifetime filters get no love here (in case you didn't notice
). You're not getting it for anything other than hassle reduction. Your alternative is to manage a remote mount, or install a bypass filter that's got easier access. Again, they are just for the convenience. You're into the deeper end of the life cycle ..so "benefit" is going to be questionable.
lol for $119... thats 24 filters for 5 bucks. oil change every 8k = 24x8=192k miles
If it's a hassle to change the filter, which usually means that getting a regular strap-type oil filter wrench into that area is a pain, then you might want to look into the K&N filter that fits your car: HP-1003. They aren't cheap, but being able to use a 1" wrench or socket to install and remove the K&N might work better for you and be worth the extra cost. Even this is a far cheaper solution than would be that "lifetime" filter.
Of course, for installation always start threading by hand and do not torque down the filter with the wrench.

"Lifetime" maintenance makes me think of auto manufacture recommendations....yes, life time fluid means good until thing fails THEN replace fluid.
