Lexus cable-tie mat hold down system

What a totally ghetto solution from a company that is cutting too much corners. Luckily I don't have a newer Toyota so I don't have to worry about it. However my neighbor just bought a new toyota so I better tell em about it.

Then they will get a JD Power Award for most appealing floor mat retention system and Yuppie Reports will place them on the recommended buy list LOL
 
So why is the gas pedal so close to the floor? On my Saab 93 it's at least 2 inches from the floor. (Hopefully it's not so far from the floor a beercan could get lodged behind it...hmm, maybe that's what Toyota was thinking when they designed the gas pedal?)
 
At least my Lexus dealer fills up the gas tank when it goes in for recall work. I'll be driving my IS350 in with the gas light on for this one...
