Usually Korean tires like Kumho and Hankooks are excellent and low-priced. 2 years ago I had Firestone Indy 500 tires and they were excellent. The best but priciest tires I have ever experienced were the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S. They lasted forever!! Awesome grip and rain performance. Very quiet as well!!!

Toyo Proxes 4 are very good tires. Excellent on dry and wet pavement. Ok in light snow, but I run Kuhmo tires in the winter.

Yes, the AT20's are pretty worthless. Like a bunch of the OEM Generals that you see out there also. However, the AT21 is a different animal.

The best set of tires I have ever had, kid you not, were the Dunlop Radial Rover AT's. I like Dunlop. Like them a lot.

Hey, YouThere, what kind of full size SUV are we talking about here?

Oh, yeah, I forgot, maybe even Nitto DuraGrapplers if they are in your size.

I had 500's, 721's, and something on a Saturn LS ... and I 100% agree with you. A used Ford Fusion my wife bought came with a brand new set of Firestones, the Firehawk GT. They've been ok but noisy so far, 15,000 miles. At 225/50-17, I guess I expect the noise.

The Firestone dealer who sold me the 500's was quite dishonest in several ways which further soured me on the people supplying the product.

Personally when I have a damaged tire that can't be patched, I replace both tires on the axles and keep the old one as a cold spare. I made a mistake of throwing a good tire away and later needing to buy one more because another one got damaged.

On the Tire rack list. Michelin LTX come in no.1 but they are expensive. General Grabber's are no. 2. Firestone Destination LE's are no 8.

I have:

Dunlop Direzza Star Specs on the Club Sport
Pirelli PZero Nero All Seasons on the X3 and MS3
Dunlop Radial Rover RVXTs on the Wrangler
Rock-hard ancient Michelins on the 2002
Pirelli Diablos on the Speed Triple

I ran a couple of sets of Kumho Ecsta 712s on the Club Sport without any issues; they even handle track use pretty well. I've found Kumhos to be a good tire and a great value.
I've used Tire Rack almost exclusively since 1992 with absolutely no complaints.
I'm going to start taking the MS3 to more HPDEs so I scored a set of 2010 MS3 take-offs on eBay. Now I have to decide on tires. I'm leaning toward the Yokohama AD08 or the Star Specs, but my inner cheapskate is tempting me with the Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 at $85 less per tire. The downside is that it's not nearly as track-worthy as the Dunlops or Yokos. The upside is that the Hankooks are so cheap that it won't be a big deal if I only get one or two summers out of them.

I've been berry happy with "General Tires" --they are grippy, durable and most importantly: LIGHTWEIGHT!!!!

195/60/15's only 16.4 lbs.!!! wow!!

I've had Goodyear Wranglers on my Wrangler which were good and lasted many miles.

Goodyear Eagle GA's were good all season tires just a very poor tread life.(25-30k).

Kumho Road Ventures were good All-Season Light Truck/SUV tires, cheaper than bigger brands but good all around HT AS tires.

Currently have Hancook Ventus 4S EV's on the G6 and they were a steal for the price paid, ultra high performance all season.
