Lets talk about new vehicles

Since this is a new car section, I don't like trading in a car that is not paid off.
It allows the dealer to fudge the contract with confusion and since you are putting money down anyway
why not pay off your car and also avoid a credit hit in case they pay late.

That said, has anyone here called up the car loan bank and paid with electronic draw from their checking account.
It would make things much faster with the mail these days and my loan bank is nowhere close.

Sounds reasonable.

Interesting instrument cluster graphics, but that front end is just hideous.

I think this is really amazing- all kinds of option screens too.
I know it is the Nissan 2.5L engine but is the CVT Mitsu or now the same Rogue unit. That I do not know.

I like the instrument cluster don't think that's been posted before. Still can't decide on the front end. I think it's a better value though and you won't see yourself sitting at every stop light like the Rogue.

I don't like to trade in cars that are not paid off either. Trading in muddies the waters enough, adding a note against it stacks the odds to nearly unrecoverable in the dealer's favor.

The article doesn't specify, but my guess it's the same unit as in Rogue. I mean, Mitsubishi does not make their own CVT units. They all come from JATCO.

Yes true but I think the programming is different and little things like the dipstick and so on
As said before the warranty is much better with Mitsu and my dealer is 8 miles away and I have had much experience with them.
Knock on wood I have not had CVT failures with Mitsu

I posted something the other day on CVT's under another thread.
info was obtained by mechanics in the Nissan and Mitsu camps about the fluid
Was told Amsoil was the absolute best in these for the CVT and those people are not Amsoil fanboys
Maybe @Pablo would be able to fill us in. Also Amsoil was far cheaper than many others at retail.
I'd probably put 10K miles on the fluid and change it and I'm not the 3K oci guy either.

I'm keeping an eye on the dealership when some more come in. I'm not sure I need AWD anymore as
I'd be leaving the north soon. I always had AWD but it does complicate things a bit.

CVT is good stuff, especially PC price of $10.35. I will say this: SOME of the CVT's are a bit weak, and there is no savior fluid - and most all run pretty hot! The dealer fluid is certainly overpriced for the properties and short life. I've not had one complaint, in fact the opposite with CVT

Amsoil CVT

Many thanks for the discount and link and time to post!

Since this thread seems to have settled on one vehicle I’ll add this.

The new Outlander is a Rogue but with some design variants inside and out. The power train is Nissan except for the AWD system which is Mitsubishi and it’s a good one though dated. The CVT is Jatco as it always has been.

Interesting that the final assembly is Okazaki in Aichi Prefecture Nissan builds their Rogue in Tennessee. Even for the Japan market Nissan has a different assembly plant.

If I had to choose I would go with the Mitsu.

I was shown that the USA sold Rogue is made in TN-Japan-and South Korea- seen all three on the local lot.
The dealer showed me little things besides the VIN to show how to know.

I know you're insistent on a new car, however I just bought a 2016 DIESEL BMW 535d and I can't imagine wanting more from a highway cruiser. The last year for the 5-Series diesel is 2018, and though I haven't driven that new G30 it should be an improvement over my older F10 generation car in every way.

My 2016 is an X-Drive AWD, weighs ~4100lbs, is big and comfortable (once I figured out the bazillion-way adjustable "comfort" seats) and it will comfortably exceed 40mpg on the highway where it can go 700+ miles on a fill (18.5 gal tank). The newer 2018 G30 530d's will be coming off-lease now and are a fantastic bargain used.

I didn't read through the 53 pages of thread before posting, but if you're going to put a ton of miles on a car why buy new? It's just going to depreciate like a leaky balloon.

Food for thought.

EDIT: Looks like you may have chosen already. Good luck!

Congratulations on your new ride
No I'm looking at all options out of basic car hobby so to speak.
My neighbor has several BMW's
He is an engineer and taught himself how to do all types of repairs- has to- each daughter has one and son has one and him and his wife too.
I am a diesel fan but BMW scares me a bit because my repair knowledge on German cars is limited.
What kind of money are these and what areas are a concern? thanks!

I know I like to buy new. Not buying someone else's problems, and I get the best years of the warranty.

Depreciation is a problem, but if one holds for 10 years or more, is it really a big one?

Yeah I take care of my cars at a different level than most and new works for me because I often use them as right offs and I want the latest in refinement and safety as well as efficiency.

If you're a short-trip driver with a diesel then the DPFs are prone to clogging. If you stretch the OCIs there are lots of valves/solenoids in the engine that can get plugged up (I change at 2/3 to 3/4 the OEM OCI usually). Other than that, my research has indicated that the F10 BMWs are reasonably reliable cars. You hear some stories, sure, but I don't think there are many widespread severe problems. The G30 is a newer generation and I don't see why it would be any worse than the F10.

Mine is a Canadian car with nearly all the option boxes checked, and I paid less than 1/3 the new price (which was an eye-watering CDN$95,000). I'm not sure about your local market, but I'd guess off-lease cars would be going for US$25k, plus or minus, since the 535 would be about USD$70,000 with diesel, X-Drive, and a few options.

Owning a BMW was not on my radar until recently. We got my wife a new 2011 323i E90 (Canadian model) and I was also a bit nervous about owning it. Touch wood, it's been a very reliable car and now has over 100k miles (170k kms) on it. It's had a few things go here and there (ignition coils, shocks, a couple of suspension joints), but the only major thing was the AC. If you leave the HVAC in AUTO (she does) it runs the AC all the time unless it's well below freezing, so it's no surprise it only lasted ~150k kms. The oil pan gasket is a common problem on that car and needs to be changed as it's starting to leave drops in the driveway.

I'll let you know in a few years if my F10 is as good a car as her E90. :)
