Lets talk about new vehicles

I don't understand the stigma VW gets either. We've owned a lot of domestics personally over the years, and I've had a fair amount of experience with some Asian makes at work, and VW build quality is well beyond quite a few others. My Passat had one occasional rattle in the very rear that I never figured out, it went away after a while and never came back. My Jetta is one of the cheapest cars on the market, and at 4k not a single squeak, rattle or groan anywhere, the little sucker is tight. The "shunk" when I shut the doors always tickles me.

When you see older VWs on the road, they generally still look good at 10-15 years of age, a lot of makes don't.

I'll put some serious miles on that thing for you Zee.... oh wait, the babes problem. Never mind.
KC it is now attracting weird men with meds.... @manicrodder. lol

The best thing is the inside smells like some super exotic coffee blend.
Still does and I don't drink coffee.

Really nice.
I think you just love VW's
Here it is a pretty anonymous ride except for the lady yesterday.

I appreciate that.
As you know i fit in nothing but this car is awesome. Thank you for that.
Even with a horrible back I ride in a cloud..i use the comfort mode and it is nice for me

Definitely guilty of loving VWs, I have even more history with them than Jeeps. A Jeep WJ was my daily when I registered here however.

You are a bad influence too Zee...you've got me fantasizing about flipping the Jetta. But I won't ha ha.

Zee, given this thread it seems like you`ve checked quite a few new vehicles in the past nine months so I`m going to try and pick your brains a little.

Me and the bride came off the mountain and headed to the big city to watch the grandkids for a few days while my son fulfills some military reserve obligations. My DIL accompanied him for his units annual Christmas party. We have very few new car dealers near us up in the mountains and the closest ones are smaller and don`t carry the inventory that the big city dealers do. We take this chance when we can to see what's new and available since our ride is pushing eights years old.

Yesterday we stopped at several dealers while on our way to pick the grandkids up from school. Since we we're picking the kids up we had no time for test drives. We first looked at the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder with the new nine speed transmission and 284 hp V6. Nice looking vehicle but it looked a lot bigger in person than the few we've seen on the road and the bride wasn't sure she wanted to drive a vehicle that big. Next door was a GMC dealer so we looked at an Envision. I'd never heard of one before. It looked OK. It had a 228 hp 2.0T. It was in the lowest trim level which we weren't thrilled about (Salesman said the two higher trim levels were a lot better but there were none on the lot at this time) and I've never owned a vehicle with a turbo. Running out of time we ventured across the street to a Hyundai dealer to look at a Santa Fe and a Tuscon. Both were OK size wise and looked like the typical mid-size suv on the road today. Bride said she'd be happy with either one if needed. We will be looking at a Jeep Grand Cheorkee today while taking the grandkids Christmas shopping. I'm hoping to swing back by the Nissan and Hyundai dealers to test drive the Pathfinder and Santa Fe time permitting.

Since you apparently spent a lot time looking at new vehicles, and I didn't want to go back through 94 pages to see specifically which ones you referenced, I was wondering if you checked any of these vehicles out and, if so,, what your (or anyone reading this post) opinions were on the vehicles listed above or, better yet, suggest others I didn't mention. Due to age this could possibly the last vehicle we ever purchase.

BTW, your wit and and humor have made these 94 pages an enjoyable read. Thanks.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Many thanks and I am Jim.
The best thing is you are out and about, and I see you have a Nissan in your signature.
The issue here in MD. and DE. is what you alluded to inventory.

My Nissan dealer is very fair giving MSRP prices on the Pathfinder and even a few minor incentives.
I loved the Pathfinder but since they were being fair, they lasted like 3-4 hours on the lot.
I could not get the right color and trim combo, or I would be driving one even though it is a fresh model
which sometimes can be an issue, but I have done that many times. The EPA MPG was to my liking for such
a roomy SUV.

Toyota which is supposed to be the king of reliability is also pricing fair here, but their lots are empty.
I have avoided Kia and Hyundai because for the popular vehicles they are $3-$5K over MSRP and I have some reservations
with these brands although I bought my mother a Hyundai way back when it was taboo...lol

The brands you mentioned, are they the only local options you have?
Have you looked at the Rogue when you were at Nissan? It may be a better size for you.
Every brand on here gets bashed but I do like the Rogue, but I also have a Mitsubishi dealer local and the new Outlander
is basically the same vehicle with a better warranty. To many the Rogue looks more pleasing but big and boxy does not bother me.
Yes, you have a CVT but I have owned most, and they do not bother me at all.

I did drive a Jeep GC and it is on here. Beautiful vehicle but a bit tight inside for me and on these hills here
the V6 was a bit weak but I could live with it. And no, I am not a high HP guy or a fast driver.

Right now, it comes down to availability and if you can get a fair price.
Feel free to PM me anytime if you have any questions.

Yes, I did buy a VW- like you my days are getting a bit shorter. Always wanted one but chickened out.
So, I pulled the trigger...

I love the new Ford Maverick as well but the slow hybrid delivery sort of delayed that purchase.
I'm sure your wife wants a CUV-SUV instead.
Good Luck!

Typically sell for less than MSRP when they are out of stock.
When I unload my last flip the Corolla Hybrid did interest me because of the mpg and the price is very fair and I can order one at a deal.
Save the Arteon for fresh pump duty or sell it to KC ☺

Well after spending most of the day Christmas shopping with the grandchildren and being completely drained of energy we finally made it to the DCJ dealer. Come to find out they didn't have the Grand Cherokee that their website listed as in stock. My bride was less than happy since we ventured out of our way to look at it. They had a few new 2022 Grand Cherokees with third row seating which we aren't interested in. One reason is we don't need the third row. Second reason is the length of the vehicle with the third row. The garage on our mountain home appears to have been an after thought to the builder who built it. The Sierra 1500 I recently sold could barely fit in it. The Salesman told us there would be a 2022 Grand Cherokee released later in 2022 that didn't have a third row but he did'nt know when.

On our way back to the house we passed the Toyota dealer in town so my wife said we might as well stop in and check out their offerings. Checked the last remaining Rav 4 on the lot. The bride thought it was a bit small for her liking. Brides are funny creatures. Only other option was the Highlander of which they received two new ones yesterday. One was already sold and the other was being test driven while we were there. It wasn't that big of a deal since my son and DIL have a 2021 Highlander we've ridden in.

Just an observation but the two dealerships we visited yesterday were packed with customers appearing to be negotiating for vehicles. The Nissan dealer from the day before was also packed. The GMC dealer and the Hyundai dealer from the day before, not so much. Which brings up my last observation. All of the new vehicles on the GMC and Hyundai lots had ADM stickers adding $9995 to the MSRP from the factory. I didn't realize at the time that both dealerships were owned by the same company. Neither the Nissan dealer or Toyota dealer appeared to have ADM stickers on their cars. Last night, just to satisfy my curiosity, I requested a "get today's online price" for the Santa Fe we had looked at on Friday. The MSRP, minus the ADM, was $33,105. I requested an OTD price. They actually responded back pretty quickly with $41,935. Now I understand why they might have been void of customers.

When it comes to the Rogue, my wife looked at one several months back when we were in the big city. She liked it. As with this trip there was no time for a test drive due to other commitments. The Nissan dealer we visited on Friday were sold out of Rogues. Not sure why the bride thought the Rav 4 was too small but the the Rogue was not. I'm not even going to try and figure that one out. Mitsubishi has never been on our radar and if we have passed a delership it never grabbed my attention.

More $10k ADM nonsense.
Totally scandalous.
Never would I pay even the $3k amount.
