Lets talk about Bourbon

Just picked up a bottle of this too.

I went to a friend's house on Saturday for a Scotch and Whiskey tasting. It took me a few hours but I got through all of these.View attachment 143549View attachment 143550View attachment 143551View attachment 143552View attachment 143553View attachment 143554
That must be a real good friend if he’s laying out the Stagg Jr on the table for his guests. That bottle goes for $350 on the secondary market, because you’ll never see that thing sitting on a shelf at a liquor store...it’ll be behind the counter or in a glass cabinet (if you even see it at all). I’d love to get my hands on one, at or close to retail.

And I’ve tried that Calumet 16!!! I think it’s FANTASTIC. And worth the $150 bucks.

I remember hearing him say that he got a call that it was available at some store by him and he just stopped what he was doing and went to get it. I don't remember all the details but something about a really good price and multiple bottles. I had tasted a good amount at that point so some details area little fuzzy.

Just picked this up today. Usually a Scotch drinker but will try this weekend with my son in law because he is the Bourbon drinker.
That would basically be the holy grail of bourbon for me. I’ve never seen it on the shelves at retail. I’ve seen it behind the counter or in a glass case, usually for $350 bucks, but I’ve never seen it on a shelf at a liquor store for the $70 dollar retail price.

But I have tried it, it’s a serious pour. Pretty hot, if I remember, but it was pretty drinkable even at 130 proof.

Have not tried yet, son in law couldn't make it this weekend, my daughter reminded him of "previous commitments" so it will probably be in a week or 2 when I visit them. Yep I see its high proof, but hey no guts no glory, if I don't like it I will give him the bottle since he is the bourbon drinker of the family, probably just give it to him anyway.

I just saw one for the first time (not at $70) in a store. I may have seen it before but didn't pay attention nor knew what it was but this time I did actually see it in a store. A friend told me not to get it unless I find it for $100 or less.

Been watching for that up here(PA) but they don't have it yet. I have the Port Charles and like it so I imagine this version should be just as good or better. Wife yelling at me, time to go to a picnic, have a good Holiday!

You talking about the 1984/32yr? I hadn't seen it anywhere before. I stopped at a store where I was looking for the Aberlour A'Bunadh which their website said they had but it was the A'Bunadh Alba. The Alba was on sale for I think $75 so I picked it up and when I was paying I saw this up top and I said to the guy, I'm gonna come back and buy that! I did the next day. I have been to that store before but I don't remember seeing that there so I don't know if it is new or not. It's also not close to me. ~30 miles away. I would love to get a bottle of the 1986/30yr but I haven't seen it by me. I'll keep looking periodically.

As for Port Charles, do you mean Port Charlotte? I have a bottle sitting 4 feet from me at the moment. It is one of the rarer releases (not super rare). It is the SC:01. Haven't opened it yet. I'm a big fan of Octomore, so when I can get my hands on them, I buy.

He’s a lucky son in law to get a gift like that!

I’d be shocked if you can find it for under $100. The only way I can get my hands on allocated stuff like Stag Jr, is to either be extremely lucky, or win it in a liquor store lottery system (which I never have). I’d say about twice a year I can find allocated bourbon at retail, but usually Blantons, Eage Rare or Weller. And that’s if I’m very lucky. It’ll sell out in hours where I am.

Yep the 1984/32. Yes I meant Port Charlotte, was at my mothers in law at time picking her up for picnic and I had a memory lapse.

If I'm having a whiskey prefer Scotch over Bourbon or Irish even though I can drink any of the three. I'm not a big fan of Rye which precludes most Canadian whiskies. I have a few bottles of Bourbon given as gifts...1) Woodford Reserve, 2) Fugitives Single Barrel (actually a Tennessee whiskey). Eventually I'll open them. As far as Scotch's go I like a peaty Scotch.

Hey, I was thinking maybe there was a Port Charles and I was wrong thinking you meant Port Charlotte. There is so much stuff out there, it is impossible to know it all.

I just won the bourbon lottery at my local store, which means I get an allocated bottle at retail. I won Blantons Gold ($120). Not a huge fan of Blantons but I hear the gold is better, and it’s only released once a year so I’ll take it. Was hoping to win Stagg Jr but I’m lucky to have won anything.
