I saw this unhappy little guy at a roadside stop in the mountains of Chiapas Mexico in February 2006, not too far from Guatemala. I don't know what it is but trust that someone here will figure it out.

The people that had it didn't know what it was. They had had it for a few months and they said it was captured locally.

It was real aggressive and would snarl and throw itself at the cage wire when people came near the cage.

It's a Fossa (Cryptoproctica ferox). It's a carnivore, not a cat but with retractable claws. They live in central Madagascar and prey on smaller animals including Lemurs (hence my earlier comment when Lemurs were mentioned, they are food). It's a very difficult to observe because they spend most of their time high in the trees and can apparantly move VERY quickly. Until recently they were thought to be Viverrids (like Genets) but now many think that they are actually Eupleridae (like Civets and Mongooses). Endangered thought to be only just over 2000 in existance.

OMG...what a freay fish...I mean WHY would it do such things?
"...This fish is feared to attack humans and swim into an orifice (the ----, ****, or even the ----—and deep into the urethra).[4] Because of spines protruding from the fish, it is almost impossible to remove except through surgery...."[/I}
