Our old TV is biting the dust. It is installed in an oak cabinet that I built.

Reading the 32" LCD Samsung manual, it has warnings to maintain ventilation and NOT install in any cabinet, bookcase, or rack (whatever that is).

My cabinet is 100% open on the front AND back. Below is a picture of something similar to mine (again, open on the back). The new TV will touch the left/right sides of the compartment and will have the pedastal clearance on the bottom (3") and about 6"-8" clearance on the top.

Do these TV's run hotter than the old style (almost no heat output)? They recommend mounting the TV on TOP of a cabinet/shelf or on the wall.

There are so many safety warnings with this TV, I can't figure out if this ventilation/heat warning is for real, or just one of many CYI/liability issues. Thanks for any help.

I have an almost identical TV cabinet (open in the back) for my 43" LCD Visio. It has about 1/2" clearance on the side, 3" on the bottom and 4" on top. No problems whatsoever.
Heat is vented from the top pf TV. Yours will be in better position than mine. I did not notice any heat trapped in the cabinet. My old Samsung 27" HDTV tube TV put out a whole lot more heat out than my Visio.

100% CYA for the manufacturer. With the amount of clearance you describe at the top of the TV, along with the open back, you'll be fine.

+1, Open front and back will be plenty.
