This is for my 02 mustang GT with 8k miles, according to my uoa insolubles is on the high side. I was using amsoil asl 5w 30 ,1500 miles on the oil with .040% insolubles. I wanna switch to M1 5w 20 and use LC, would LC thin it out even more? or should I use M1 5w30 with LC?? I did a search on LC and 5w20 noone seems to be running that combo...appreciate any input on this.

You will find in the VOA section that it is itself a 20wt oil. There are some individuals using LC with xxw20 oils on this forum. I can't think of the members name but search Ridgeline.

Yep, I have a Honda Ridgeline and use LC20 (and FP60). I have noticed a little increase in gas mileage and it runs great - it should, I only have about 5700 miles on it. It still has the factory fill and my OLM shows 20% oil life expectancy. The oil service due notice will come on at 15% so the factory fill will be ready to come out soon. When it does, I will continue to use these products (and Havoline 5w20).

Although I don't like to go 6000 miles with dino, the LC20 gives me that little extra amount of protection I need to sleep well at night. I will get a UOA when I change the Havoline out just to see if the OLM is telling me the truth. If the numbers, especially TBN, come back looking bad I will either disregard the OLM and change oil sooner or perhaps try synthetic.

I don't think I have to go this route since the LC20 should get the last bit of useage out of the oil and they even claim you can go 10,000 mile OCIs on straight dino. Well, I won't ever go that long but it looks like my OLM will go a little past 6000 miles before the service due notice comes on. If you wait until 0%, the notice will say "service past due" and I won't ever let it get to that point. I just don't think you can go wrong using LC20 with any oil, including 5w20.

With 8,000 miles on your car of course there will be insoluables.

Modular motors have elevated wear for the first 15k to 25k miles.

stang,

I use LC with the Motorcraft 5w-20 in the wife's Honda Odyssey. I start with 2 oz at the change and add 1.5-2 oz every 1500 to 2000 miles.

If you want to use an M1 30 weight, I would go with the 10w-30 since it is thinner 10.2 cST at 100 deg C versus 5w-30 11.2 cST at 100C and it has no visocity improvers.

I used the reccomended dose of LC in my car with 5W20 and I saw what struck some folks as excessive thinning.
I don't have a baseline though... UOAs of my car without LC and 5W20.
Here are my existing UOA:

After I get the UOA back for my current run, I'll consider what I need to do to stem the thinning.
I'm considering cutting my LC 50/50 with Powerservice Diesel Lube Oil Extender[1], GC or maybe Syntec 5W50.

Appears to be a straight 40-weight carrier with a healthy dose of a diesel-style additive package.

LC is a straight 20, and it would INCREASE the viscosity of a 5-20 throughout most of the temp range, then eventually be equal.

I agree with Mechtech. The LC is such a small volume of the sump that I doubt it has much influence on the 100°c viscosity either.
I left a bottle outside in the trunk one night when the temps were in the high teens and added an ounce in the morning..
that stuff was T-H-I-C-K at that temperature and was hard to hand squeeze into the measuring dispinser. It stuck to the cam like glue when I poured it in the fill hole.
Once circulated the a cool effect I have noticed is the oil creeps even when it is older with 5-6k miles on it. When checking the undisturbed motor after sitting overnight and wiping the dipstick without wiping it, it is always a quarter inch higher than when I wipe it and check it right after. Could be isolated but has anyone else noticed?
