I don’t bother chopping kindling any more. Instead I use these simple wax and sawdust squares and place them between two pieces of wood. Works well and cheap enough. Enjoy.

I just always use kindling that I gather from the wood line and use it to start the fire. Start small and end up burning the big logs. I don't guess I've ever paid for fire starter blocks or strips or whatever they are.

Yep, I try to get away with using one, and use some coarse shrapnel from splitting, or a few strips of birch bark to help start it off.
Not quite cold enough here to have the coals going 24/7 yet so we use a few of those starter blocks.

I used to use kindling, newspaper and cardboard until the wife bought firestarter bricks from Etsy. Our stove is a high efficiency European design that's a real pain in the bu11 to light.

Will never go back.

Come on, be brave and grab the lawnmower gas can. Be a man!;)
My Buddy's whole family starts fires this way... I once watched his little Brother (maybe 19 at the time, gotta be nearing 30 now...) pour gas..from a gas can... onto their already burning "Fire pit"/Dish on the wooden Deck with low overhanging limbs....

none of them saw the problem...

his mom ( a Doctor no less) refers to Gasoline (in the context of fire starting) "Boy Scout Juice"..
IE: they're starting a camp fire, and she tells one of the kids to "Go Get the Boy Scout Juice"..

In the first two pictures, I show crumpled up paper to aid the process, however the logs are fairly large in diameter and I find paper is apt to go out. No kindling here. By the way, where can you get newspaper these days?
I find you need to layer a few things . Since the flame rises , put the stuff that easily burns like paper or pine needles on the bottom . Then cover that with small twigs because they will ignite and burn easier than a big log . Then your bigger pieces on top of that . I use a torch to light the paper in several different places and it usually burns on it's own .

Propane torch to the kindling here. I've done store bought starters and made my own from candle wax and egg cartons, but the propane is the simplest and most effective starter.
