I don’t bother chopping kindling any more. Instead I use these simple wax and sawdust squares and place them between two pieces of wood. Works well and cheap enough. Enjoy.
That's what I use, but its the larger version with the weed burning tip.Did someone mention "Lazy"...?

My Buddy's whole family starts fires this way... I once watched his little Brother (maybe 19 at the time, gotta be nearing 30 now...) pour gas..from a gas can... onto their already burning "Fire pit"/Dish on the wooden Deck with low overhanging limbs....Come on, be brave and grab the lawnmower gas can. Be a man!![]()
In the first two pictures, I show crumpled up paper to aid the process, however the logs are fairly large in diameter and I find paper is apt to go out. No kindling here. By the way, where can you get newspaper these days?We always just used crumpled up newspaper. Works fine.
I find you need to layer a few things . Since the flame rises , put the stuff that easily burns like paper or pine needles on the bottom . Then cover that with small twigs because they will ignite and burn easier than a big log . Then your bigger pieces on top of that . I use a torch to light the paper in several different places and it usually burns on it's own .In the first two pictures, I show crumpled up paper to aid the process, however the logs are fairly large in diameter and I find paper is apt to go out.
