Lawnboy 2-Stroke Oil

A small engine mechanic told me not to use oil sold for string trimmers, because these oils are intended for high rpm engines that run much hotter than a mower engine. He said to use an TCW-3 oil as they are ashless. But, I've also heard never to run a TCW-3 oil, because outboards run much cooler than any air cooled engine.

What oil is the correct spec oil for a Lawnboy mower engine? The owner's manual is not much help in regards to proper spec and only says to use ashless Lawnboy oil.

String trimmers are high rpm/hotter running and outboards are lower RPM/cooler running oils . The lawn boy is a lower rpm cooler running engine. A multipurpose 2 cycle oil would work Or an outboard oil. Has to do with deposits .

I had one that I only used Lawnboy oil on until I heard about Amsoils Saber 2 stroke oil. Trust me on this one and mix it at 50:1 and run it in your trimmer, blower, and mower. I would PM Pablo or another Amsoil guy on here and get their opinion but it worked great for me. As a note that is the only Amsoil product I still use because I can find good synthetics that I trust at local stores for cheap. I am just a very firm beliver in the Saber oil and so are most guys in the landscaping biz, so convienant and never a problem.

Lawnboy does spec TCW-3 for their mowers. Having said that I believe it has more to do with the specs being tighter for the TCW-3 than other 2 stroke oils. At the local "Rippy Mart" you can always find generic no-spec 2 stroke oil. I use a jasco FC oil for air cooled engines personally but I think any quality oil would be fine (considering the recommended ratio is 32:1).

Try JASO rated "FD" oil. I think it's several levels higher than "TC" or "TCW-3". I think "EGD" is the ISO equivalent. Either should perform well. My experience with "TCW-3" in line trimmers is unburnt bright stock running out of the exhaust and making a sticky mess all over.
