I just took delivery of a new Lawnboy 10550 with the duraforce engine. The Lawnboy operators manual say to use "NMMA TCW III-certified two-cycle ashless oil". On the MX2T bottle its says "API TC, JASO FC, ISO-L-EGD". If have seen MX2T recommended for 2 cycle engines on this and other forums. I want to use MX2T and have 2 questions.

1 - Should I be concerned that Lawnboy says to use an oil with a different certification than MX2T.

2 - If the answer to question 1 is that I should not be concerned, do you reccommend that I break in the engine with conventional 2 cycle oil? BTW the mower was setup by my local OPE dealer with Redmax oil at 50:1.

Thanks
Ron

I bought my Lawnboy (which is actually a 1993 model) new in 1999 and used the Lawnboy oil for breakin and then Amsoil 100:1 (mixed one 8 oz. bottle for 5 gallons of gas instead of 1 bottle per 6 gallons of gas). My engine isn't the Duraforce, though. This gives you a mixture of 80 something to 1 instead of 100:1. Mower runs well, no carbon buildup and still has 120 lbs. of compression.
