Aren't they still available on new cars now?![]()
Must be popular at Subaru, I kid I kid. Seriously on my lunch break a newer RS7 cut me off and the whole inside was full of smoke.Yep, you can still get the smoker’s/Vaper’s package at the dealership…..
My 1997 Geo had a cigarette lighter and ash tray. I know certain luxury vehicles had "smokers packages" into the mid 2000s.The conversation about tire inflators got me to thinking about what is now called the “12v power outlet” but was always known to us older folks as the “cigarette lighter socket.” That got me to thinking about how long it’s been since a vehicle has left the factory with an actual lighter element installed in the socket, and that made me wonder if anyone is still producing vehicles with an actual ashtray. The last vehicle I can definitively remember owning with one was my 87 Toyota.
When did the ashtray go away?
I always thought that was a great feature. The little square cupholder held a 12-ounce can perfectly, and you could close the lid when you didn't have a can there so it all looked nice and neat.If you didn't need to use the ash tray, it also had a little raised handle, and could be slid back into the void, and Voila! you now have a (square) cupholder for the Drivers Seat.
but you could have a Cupholder OR an Ashtray at any given time. not both.
