Largest displacement now / ever

9.6

(It's got Brodix heads painted black.)

In auto form it made 900 HP.
In marine form it makes 800Lb FT

This mill is a giant kitten with heart of lion.
It will make grown men giggle for days, and women pee their pants.

Its still being rigged here so looks a mess, but it's all tidy now.

I grew up riding around in an old 1975 Fleetwood with the 500cui motor. My dad was a pilot and commuted 100 miles to ATL every week in it for years. Biggest thing I have now is the 5.7 Hemi in the Ram. Although I do have one of the biggest cui 6 cylinders in my old F-150 at 300..

Personally owned, 2.8L V6  We do too many miles and don't have big enough toys to tow, to need more I guess.
I have driven an 8L Viper for an hour and I can see why people like a large displacement NA engine, especially in a lighter car.
I also grew up during 80's so there were still lots of big de-tuned 5L+ V8's running around in bloated old boat type cars, making ~150hp which kind of turned me off big engines, as they just seemed to be a waste of gas.

I owned CAT 3406E (14.6 liter) and C15 (15.2 liter) engines in class 8 trucks I owned in a previous business.

Currently I own an 8.4 liter V10 with forced induction. 1100 hp and torque on pump gas.

What’s the largest displacement engine you have ever had? What’s the largest you have now? If you’re planning on something in the future, you can include that as well.

My largest is 4.3 liters, 8 cyl, the Toyota 3UZ-FE.

This covers have now, and ever had.

We have a L87 on order, so when it comes, 6.2 liters and 8 cyl., that will be have now, ever had, and planning on in the future. This beats my dad, who had a 350 4bbl V8 Buick. Back in those days, I wished he could have gotten a 403 instead, or even a 455.

Imho more, and bigger, is better. I guess a big block will be something I never personally attain.

Edit and interesting how the mind works. Apparently, my dad’s car could only have a 350, 400, and not 100% on 455. The olds counterpart could have a 350, 400, 455, and not a 403. A 403 came in 1977. Well, I’m still happy with a 376. 😊
The California transAm's could only be had with the olds 403,Th350 transmission and 2.41 gears, They were downright slow. Seemed like 0-60 took forever and you were still in 1st gear.

I had a 1974 Buick Regal with a 455 4-barrel, even with being neutered by regulations it was a lot of fun to drive. But even then the cost of fuel was an issue to a college student. You could actually observe the fuel gauge dropping down when getting on a freeway entrance.

There was an older lady who owned the same car but with the 455 Stage 1 engine. She parked on the street in front of her apartment and I met her once. One day I noticed it was not there and I never saw it again. I would have loved to buy it from her.

They were unbelievable dogs stock.

A 355 in the back and a joe mondello top end kit really woke them up.

Shop took 2 hours to do the rear and a buddy and I did the heads cam carb on a saturday afternoon.

took it from like 180 Hp to 400.

Sold it to a buddy for 5K in 90.

Here it is today. Sticker kit is incorrect.

Dove an old Caddy back in the day. Had a 500 Cubic Inch V8. Glad gas was cheap back then.

Also had a 1967 Olds 98 Holiday Coupe with a 425 Super Rocket. That thing was as long as my dads suburban

Own the smallest displacement I ever have currently: 2.0L. My over-all trend has been decreased displacement and increased power:

Mopar 4.7L V8 (235hp/295tq) >
Ford/Mazda 3.0L V6 (215hp/200tq) >
Nissan 3.5L V6 (290hp/260tq) >
VW 2.0L I4 (290hp/305tq) [tuned]

Which leads me to state, bigger is not always better. I now own an engine less than half the size of one bank of my old Grand Cherokee's powerplant that puts out more horsepower and torque thanks to the wonders of boost. I don't think small boosted engines are the best choice in every situation, but in many they make far more sense than just plopping a bigger block in there.

I've owned 4x 6.4L (392ci) HEMI's, those are the largest I've personally had. My grandmother had a 1972 Cadillac Eldorado with the 500ci, I think that's the biggest we've owned in my immediate family?
