I have a HP pavilion zv6000 laptop that my stepdaughter gave me and after a good "cleaning" runs pretty good, especially from my recliner to post this! LOL!

But my question is about performance on battery power vs being plugged into 'wall' power.

I have noticed after sitting all night on battery power alone, Outlook Express opens quicker as well as Google Chrome browser or Firefox. If sitting all night while plugged into the power supply, those programs open slower.

Any reason why this would happen?

This is a basic ZV6000 with Windows XP Home SP2, 384 megs of ram, 40 gig HD and an AMD Sempron 3200 processor.

Battery power options. If you right click on your battery icon(menu bar) it should open up,it's all programable as to how the machine uses power (battery vs wall power)try that.

That's strange lol. It runs "better" off battery vs. plugged in? Sounds like the battery/performance settings got reversed :)

Should be about the opposite :)

it all depends on how the performance settings are set.

goto control panel then power options
you can check/set the settings for battery and wall power.

That's what I'm thinking! Nothing has been changed under power options in the control panel but I swear, this thing performs better under battery power.

Go figure huh?

Thanks for the replies everyone!

It could be a driver issue, you might want to check if all the drivers are up to date.

Driver or bios issue.

Flash to the latest bios and use windows update to get everything as updated as possible.

Battery power might also reduce some HP junkware from running as much. You should check to see what is running when under battery vs. what is running when charging. Battery power might disable stuff not needed freeing its resources for when you start your programs.
