KYB Gas-A-Just vs Monomax

The Bronco in my signature is my project vehicle. As I'm going through it, I'm looking to replace the old Monroe Gas Magnums that are on it. While I'd like Bilstein's, I think KYBs are more budget friendly. Someone was telling me that the Gas-A-Justs are better when the vehicle is carrying a load while the Monomax are better when not carrying a load. The most I'll ever likely carry in this are two kayaks. Does anyone have any experience between these two, especially in a Bronco or F series truck?

Never ran KYB but I can vouch for the Bilstein 5100. Running them on my leveled F150 with LT range E tires and the ride is just fine!

I installed a lot of Gas-a-just shocks on vehicles back in the day. No complaints from anyone that I recall. I Installed some Gas-a-just shocks on my old 4Runner, last year. It is mainly used for winter driving and fourwheeling trips. I would call it a controlled and comfortable ride. No complaints from me.

I think whoever advised you about which is better empty vs carrying a load, had it backwards. The Monomax is a heavier duty shock than the Gas-a-just, and would be better when the vehicle is loaded heavy. Empty, the vehicle would ride more harshly with the Monomax.

Can't go wrong with either, but for a truck I'd rather use Monomax. They're probably more like the Bilsteins than the gas-a-just as well.

And the $40 rebate makes KYB an even better deal

It depends on what was stock on a particular vehicle.

Generally, most vehicles have fairly soft damping when stock.

The KYB Excel-G would be closest to what most vehicles have when stock.

In order of control and firmness in the KYB line would be the Execl-G softest. The Gas-a-just in the middle. And Monomax the firmest.

Im using KYB (recently installed back in january)
Nothing special, ride is ok but could have been stiffer...... never used the other brand.

I've been leaning towards the monomax. I've heard a lot of people complaining about the gas-a-justs rusting out. I believe the monomax are zinc plated under the pretty red paint

. We get a lot of washboard roads after the summer thunder storms start. Any thoughts as to which would handle them better?

have monomax's on my truck for over a year now. they've been pretty great and gives it a nice firm ride.

Ive had KYB's blow out catastrophically more than once. This was on a Mercedes. Never again. I went back to Bilstein for the Merc and last go around I put motorcraft on the truck.

Bilstein when it needs it, KYB for everything else. My own opinion, of course, but it's what I get my wallet out for.

Just installed a set of the KYB Excel-G on my Toyota truck yesterday. They are firm. Prefer the softer ride of Monroe OE Spectrum. I like the KYB Excel-G, but next round the truck is getting OE Spectrum.

KYB ahocks do tend to last, getting a bit harsher with age, and they do rust but not in a way that affects their performance.
