Krown Rust Control - An American in Canada

Decided to get my Saab Krown'ed, per the recommendations of Stevie on here from sometime back. Went to the Krown location on Sydenham Rd in Kingston ON. Have to say they are a nice bunch, the owner and site manager spent a good amount of time talking, walking through the process, etc. The manager explained each step they were taking as we went through and watched.

The product is pretty thin - far thinner than I'd expected. I have used Eastwood rust preventer, which is more or less a wax, and I had some on different parts of the car. It will be interesting to see the consistency of the dried Krown stuff.

It does drip quite a bit. They spray some in, and it comes out drains, etc. It flows well. Some of the spots can coat stuff that maybe shouldn't be - for example what came out of drain spots in my trunklid dripped onto my bumper, which has a "porous" plastic trim strip - which shows wax remains, so will likely show this too. Ditto for the bit that drained out of the doors, onto the plastic skirts on the side of the car. But it is the nature of the drain paths from the Saab, and it is what it is. And it does make the porous plastic parts look like new...

Only time will tell the effect/benefit, but it is peace of mind... and I am happy. I'm planning to get some of our other cars done too over the next few years.

What does a service like that cost?

That driping is normal, and you jusy have to wipe it up now and then. The thin oil will wash off over time, and I like the thincker non-drip stuff. Even that will ooze out of mouldings and trim. It's the only way to stop rust though, time proven. You can apply you own oil if needed. Chain saw bar oil (summer grade-thick) works OK as it has a tackfier, but will also drip. The first few days you need to park on the gravel or on the road,or put cardboard down in garage.

Someone in the US should open a franchise for udercoating, I think you would do very well.

Krown doesn't really "dry", my frame still has a wet look. Though it's the second coat for it. The first coat seemed to "soak in".

You said it was thin. How much do they apply? Sometimes they tell you in pounds. I do it myself and can lay it on really thick. I sometime use a whole pail (5 gals) for my winter car.

I had RustChex done a year ago. They used the red thin oil inside the fenders, doors, under hood, ect, ect. Waited about 2/3 months and had the heavier oil called Coat & Protect sprayed on as an undercoating, am going to get a touchup before fall for protection this winter.

I'm lucky, there is a RustChex located in South Bend Indiana, I believe its very close to Krown but No Krown dealer near here and now I'd have to get a PassPort to get back into the states.

Oh ya! it never dries. I believe it has alot of lanolin in it. Cost for both applications was less than $200.

My application was $119 plus the Ontario and Canada taxes. I don't know how much they applied, they have spray guns and just apply what is needed to all areas. T-40, which is the heavier product is what was used. It stays fluid unlike the eastwood stuff, but is also thinner.

Since the job was done on a road trip, it does not matter where I park!

Except that Krown is Canadian and started with Rust Check. Krown split off from Rust Check, they are both top dawgs when it comes to rust proofing and Krown kept my parents' 1997 Nissan Quest rust free for 13 years.

In fact, when the fuel pump finally died, I wiped off the bottom chassis near the pump wires with All Purpose Cleaner and saw SHINY metal after 12.5 years!

Absolutely! It supprizes me thats it not done here in the U.S., at least in the rust belt.

Krown is the best product on the market bar none.. I won't waste my time with any of those other "oil spray" type ones that do nothing but cover up problems. Krown penetrates into the seems of the car and basically prevents moisture from staying there. I've used it on all my newer cars and never had a sign of rust whatsoever on them. I wish when I buy used cars people would've taken care of the body like I did.

Yes, Krown is an EXCELLENT product. I have used it in the past and highly recommend it. I now live in Las Vegas where rust and corrosion is a mute subject. John--Las Vegas.

carwell is the US sister company that sells Krown T-40. I'd recommend using it.

I am planning on doing a test with Krown T-40, fluid film, corrosion-x, eastwood and a few others on a piece of steel...

How does the Rust Check interact with wax coatings?

The frame on my Silverado was "wax" dipped at the factory, and I'd rather not lose that protection. Will the Rust Check affect it at all?

I've found a place that applies Rust Check that is only about an hour and 15 minutes from here.
