Kreen Treatment Help

Hi everyone,

So I have a 2000 3.4 Impala that has what I believe to be a lifter knock.

Anyway, put in maybe 4oz of Kreen in a couple hundred miles ago to see if it'd do anything without having to drain some oil out....Don't think thats gonna work.
So I'll probably drain some oil to make room for the full Kreen amount.
Shouldn't I drain less than a quart though, as I've heard much of the Kreen evaporates/burns off?

Also There is Lucas Oil Treatment in the oil, this won't affect my Kreen treatment right?
 
This "Lucas Oil Treatment" you speak of... Is this not a product that is intended to thicken up the oil? If you're trying to deal with a lifter tick you don't want any junk that could slow oil delivery to any lifter right? I am confused.

Why is there Lucas Oil treatment other then the obvious you put it there. I'm not a Lucas hater at all, I like their upper cylinder lube better then MMO, but their oil supplements are junk. Seriously, change your oil and run some Royal Purple and see if that Lifter is knocking still. You need Moly and synthetic oil. Does it knock all the time or just at startup? If just at startup you might consider running a thinner oil that will get there sooner. The problem is when you go thinner, you really need a quality oil that's additive package wont leave you high and dry when you get miles on it. I say try Royal Purple first and see how it does, then maybe Redline or Amsoil. I had a lifter tick in my Hemi, and Redline and BG MOA ended it. Not sure which product helped more, probably the Redline, but the combo was great at ridding me of a horrible lifter tick that only came during startup for about 4 minutes or so, then it would go away.

Yeah, I regret putting it in. I was running MMO in the last oil, and the knock is louder with the Lucas.

What??? From my understanding Lucas is mostly just a super thick oil.... Shouldn't dissolve it.

There's no knock for like the first 5-6 seconds right after startup, then the horrible knock begins, and it gets quiter after warm-up, but it never goes away.

You need two cups of kreen. Don't worry about draining the oil unless it is already overfilled.

Was opinion of Lucas products formed into a joke. Sorry about that, not intended to mislead you. agree with others, going thinker is not the answer for a tick. Its flow which would be thinner.
 
"Dissolve" does not mean what some here seem to think that it means.

Dissolve means to "carry in solution". All of the components in Lucas is already in solution and stays in solution when added oil. As long as there are no solids suspended in the oil, everything in the oil is in solution - it is dissolved. The oil is the solvent.

It won't dissolve the Lucas but it will thin it.
 
You may have a faulty lifter/spring, in which case it just needs to be replaced. I would try some of the suggested different lubrication tactics first though. How long since last PCV change? It seams like you did the wrong thing first, you don't want thicker oil with knocks that quiet down after warm up, and that is what you did when you put the Lucas in there. The time for thicker oil is when you are burning oil, not when your lifters are knocking. It could be something even worse, like piston slap or connecting rods. Seriously, try a synthetic lighter weight oil, and see if you can quiet it, then if you do maybe think about selling the car. A 2000 Impala isn't worth fixing when something big fails. Good luck

Sweet! That saves me some time.
But that's only half a quart, the container says use a whole quart? I think I've probably already put at least one cup in.

The whole reason I got the Kreen is 'cause I'm trying to sell it. :P
If I can fix the knock without tearing apart the whole engine that would be great.
I'm hoping its just a gunked up lifter.
And like I said, I'm trying to sell it, so I don't wanna go blow a bunch of money on expensive synthetic. Spent too much on this thing already. lol


And yeah, Lucas Oil was a mistake.

Got a container right here in front of me. It says 2 cups in the oil and 2 cups in the fuel.

Weird, could'a sworn it said to put a quart into the oil.....but I threw out the original container (POS) so I can't verify.

I went ahead and added about another cup.....not sure if I should go more as the first cup was put it couple hundred miles ago.....
 
Well so far not much change......still tick noise.....grrrrrrr.....

Oh well just try and sell it as is I guess; don't have time to tear into the engine.
