Pennzoil or Valvoline and than whatever dino is cheapest. He does use the OEM Kohler filters and change the oil at 25 to 50 hour intervals. We are in a brutal place down here. Tons of sand and heat.

If he's changing every 25-50 hours, he's probably spending a pile on OEM (assuming OEM P/N 1205001 or 5205002) filters. There are a bunch of less expensive ones (Motorcraft FL400S, Purolator L10241, etc..) that'll work.

In my lawn service I run all John Deere ztrs with Kawasaki engines. I run Rotella 30 wt in everything, but most of the new equipment calls for 10w30. I change the oil at 75 hrs with a Napa proselect filter. I trade at 2000 hrs but have 1 machine with 2208 hrs and plan to run her till she blows. The more time I spend on this site I am wondering about the straight 30 wt.
