I know this has been discussed before but I wanted to find out first hand and they are the exact same thing. The Kohler media was a little tighter packed but not enough to justify the price difference.

Ime, OPE filters always cost significantly more than automotive applications that can be used as replacement. Both the topic filters still use a combo valve too. Keep wondering if the ST3614 will change to new Champ Labs, metal endcap, ecore, poppet bypass design other ST/MP now use.

As noted above, 910S also available at WM, silicone adbv and separate bypass.

But yeah, if you like the Kohler OF with old ecore tech, buy the ST and save money.

Hard to say, but when Champ Labs was making the SuperTech filters, they used fiber end caps on many of them.
Metal end caps aren't 'needed' so why use them?

My 2¢

It wasn't my intent to debate whether metal endcaps are "needed" versus the fiber/felt like endcaps that were used on the previous generation ecore. If one follows this forum, Champ has changed the design of the WM ST, new MP series and ACDelco filters to metal endcaps with ecore/nylon core, and separate poppet bypass. The 3614 is one of, if not the only one left using the old felt endcaps and a 'combo valve. Thus the "wonder" if or when that popular application will change to be the same as other ST/MP filters now. Nothing more was implied beyond that point. I would add though that imo, the separate poppet bypass on the newer ecore versus the combo valve, a big improvement.

I agree, the two topic filters look identical. If not, certainly close enough not to pay the price premium for the Kohler label.

My local Walmart has both. Still hoping for an MP 3387 for my GM vehicles

Has both what? Has the lower tier 'ST' 3614 in both the topic original design and the newest design with metal endcaps and poppet bypass? Or, has both the ST and MP3614? Does the MP have the updated Champ design? I haven't seen the MP 3614 yet, curious to see if it has been updated.

My reference here was specifically to the topic 'ST'3614.

On Rock Auto this filter is like $1.38 sold as the Champ PH2835. You know Kohler is paying Champ less than that and then marking them up. It's like jewelry with it's 1,500% mark up. My brother pays the premium for the same filter sold as a "Kawasaki" filter for his zero turn. I've tried to tell him, but there's no helping some people....

Ha ha, this is true. What's the saying about 'a fool and his money'? But, for some folks the name on the can gives the warm fuzzies and thus worth the premium, I suppose. Oh, not saying your brother is a fool.

No doubt the Kohler name here is what garners the steep mark up. Again, the two topic look identical. Wouldn't doubt with exception of can, they are.

As for RA, only thing I find about them, generally have to buy in quantities of ~6 to make up for the shipping costs. I just don't go through filters that fast, or like storing too many. But, if you don't mind storing, or use faster, a decent option.

Yes the MP design is the newer design with metal caps and poppet bypass and Silicone anti drain back valve. Rated for 20k according to the box. The ST is still the one pictured above rated for 10k according to packaging.
