I repaired a kobalt 40v electric lawnmower that had its wires chewed off by a dog. If it was a gas mower it could have just as easily have been the brake and shutdown cable. Not a failure "because it was electric".
So I repaired the wires with some of those marine shrink connectors not wanting to break inside the mowers internals.
I noticed the blade was beaten blunt from small rocks and such. I half arse sharpened the blade like I do for a gas and 120v plug in mowers, sharp enough to cut grass very efficiently but not removing a bunch of steel and grinding away life of the blade.
Well I tested it and it has no power, even with a full battery. These things are a total waste of money. 8 inch grass was easily enough to overload it and cause it to shutdown repeadedly, I bet it couldn't even take 6 inches of thick grass at walking speed, a feat easily handled by my clapped out 140cc junker with a blunt blade.
So I took the blade off the kobalt again and gave it a full knife like sharpening and gave it back to the customer.
They said it works better than it ever did and now the battery lasts longer than when it was new a few years ago, then asked if they can bring the blade by be sharpened.
This 40v cobalt is an expensive down grade from my clapped out 140cc loaner mower with no compression, this thing is junk the engine is going to go out any time now. But it starts real easy. I change the oil every 2 to 3 hours to prolong it's agony. The pcv pukes oil onto the air filter, after a few hours I change them because they soak with oil, then I put used dirty blown off air filters on it. They said no rush, I know they just wanted to use my clapped out loaner mower for couple days to get the city yard Nazi off their backs.
I would say the 40v kobalt and that clapped out 140cc are also a downgrade from my plug in 120v plug in black and decker mower I ran to death multiple times from 2006 to 2017. Used a 50ft 12ga cord and my special 25amp "welding machine only" breaker and it was unstoppable. That machine was 4,300rpms of pure death and dismemberment.
