Kirkland FS High Mileage is here!

The Supertech 5w30 high mileage does have the dexos approval on the bottle, I recently purchased some.
You're correct on this point, however, it seems that only the "Full Synthetic" version has the approval, at least that's the only version I saw with the certification:

Once the warranty is over does it matter as much? HM means the factory warranty on the engine is probably long gone.

I used VL Maxlife Syn Blend on my high mileage GM after it no longer had D1 approval. I figured it had gotten me that far so it didn’t matter. I was right BTW as the engine kept going along fine.
Interesting, I had no idea maxlife syn blend used to be dexos certified. I read on here it utilizes roughly 20% synthetic base stock but I guess that was enough to meet the spec

Yep. I used it in my ‘12 GM 3.6 almost exclusively and kept using it after the certification was gone. I think QS blend had it back then as well.

If a manufacturer cannot design the engine to operate with the oil they are recommending then I would call that a bad design. They know CAFE isn’t going anywhere. Adapt.

If a manufacturer recommends 87 and the engine is damaged from preignition you’d give them a pass on it? I know I wouldn’t. I say design with the standards in mind. Other industries have to do it too. This isn’t a new thing.
The manufacturer thought they designed it correctly and thought they picked the correct viscosity.

As far as octane talk here, that's not a subject I have mentioned inside this thread. Maybe you meant that topic for some other member here?..... I dunno.

What I do know that multiple owners of those subpar Theta 2s have found many more years of engine use using 40w motor oils in those four bangers. Member Accent Abuser just so happens to have the engine with the most original miles I've witnessed on various HYUNKIA messageboards. He is nearing 275k and most owners using the thin 20w oil and changing the oil by manufacturer recommendations of 7.5k, find it difficult to go beyond 100k.

Cause it matters to some people. Not everyone follows oil forum recommendations. You won’t ever go wrong following the manual.
The manual is designed to get you to the end of warranty. Jeep ecodiesels were grenading plenty due to bad requirements
