Here's a truly heartwarming story about the bond formed between a little 5-year-old girl and some construction workers that will make you believe that we all can make a difference when we give a child the gift of our time.

A young family moved into a house, next to a vacant lot. One day, a construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot. The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers.

Eventually the construction crew, all of them "gems-in-the-rough,"more or less, adopted her as a kind of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important. At the end of the first week, they even presented her with a pay envelope containing ten dollars. The little girl took this home to her mother who suggested that she take her ten dollars' "pay" she'd received to the bank the next day to start a savings account.

When the girl and her mom got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked the little girl how she had come by her very own pay check at such a young age. The little girl proudly replied, "I worked last week with a real construction crew building the new house next door to us." "Oh my goodness gracious," said the teller, "and will you be working on the house again this week, too?" The little girl replied,

"I will, if those a**holes at Lowe's ever deliver the da** sheet rock..."

So true! Kids are sponges, and will absorb any knowledge thrown their way. Whether that knowledge is good or bad depends on their family and their surroundings.

that is 1000% true.. so true its not even funny. i love my 1 and 3 year old to death, and have had to make some HUGE changes in the way i talk around them. its really hard too, after spending 8 hours in a less-then-desireable factory job, then coming home to them.. if they're paying attention to it, they WILL remember it! and will bring it back up at the worst possible times

This reminds me of when my youngest was about five. My wife has a weakness for junk food. Funny thin is that she looks great and I'm the overwieght one. Anyhoo I would give her a hard time about it and when I would see her with junk food I would say, "No! No! Save the hips!!!!!" Well, one day we were in Costco with my youngest. My wife was coming back from the other side of the store when my youngest spotted her with a cake in hand. So my little pride and joy, full of concern for his mothers wellfare, yells out at the top of his five year old lungs, "NO! MOMMY NO! SAVE THE HIPS!"

And yes, I'm still paying for that one.........

They also no filters on *when* to to say these thing -

When my niece was about 4, she and her parents came home for a visit. There were a lot of family and church friends at the house to meet her. One older visitor knew that the family was going to the zoo the next day and asked my niece if she liked animals. Without blinking, my niece gave a thumbs up and said "f***ing A."

When I was a little kid, and we lived in Georgia, we had a construction crew come in to add an extension onto the house. I was about 4, or 5 at the time.

I wanted to help, so they let me hammer in some naisl, and paint, and stuff like that. Little things that I could do, obviously.

Well, one day I accidentally broke a sheet of mirror (those cheap sheets you get, to cut to size) and thought it was much worse than it actually was. So, I fully expected to get yelled at by my mom. She was in the other room.

>So I open the door.

>Get on the floor.

>Everybody walk the dinosaur
