I think either model would have sold a lot more in today's market if they were readily available in all areas.
I don't think people who buy these types of cars are worrying about resale value-generally.Can't spend $18,500+ for a MIRAGE or KIA Rio . Might as well step up to a new COROLLA and CIVIC sedan / hatch for $23,000+ which will keep their book value better than a MIRAGE . The Mirage G4 skips rear folding ( split ) back seats and less lining in the trunk . That should be basic like most other small sedans such as the RIO sedan , etc..
My 2019 Ford Fiesta (1.6L, 5M) actually got 2 mpg less than my 2016 Mazda 6 (2.5L, 6m). Never did figure that one out.Not surprising. No one in the USA wants small cars, and TBH small cars haven't done much better on mpg their slightly larger cousins.
Aerodynamics is a factor, but I also think the oems like to punish people who don’t buy more upscale. Tin foil hattery I know but for the want of pennies they will do stupid things. But maybe that is the way it is, maybe labor and other overhead costs are fixed, and the only way to make a cheap car is to really dig deep and cut things. My 2019 Ford Fiesta (1.6L, 5M) actually got 2 mpg less than my 2016 Mazda 6 (2.5L, 6m). Rio was not awful however mirage never a decent offering that has aged. I am curious what under the hood looks like on an older mirage, to cut costs they did not paint the engine bay![]()
There’s still the Mazda 3 hatchback, though it’s probably on the chopping block soon.Imagine the fuel economy of something the weight of a nineties Civic or Corolla with current fuel saving tech.
Imagine the shear joy of winding out a smooth and strong four cylinder while snicking through the gears.

Or people who don't want to pour a ton of investment in a disposable product that will lose its value, or people who live In metropolitan areas with very tight parking, or people who are being responsible by buying what they can afford and spending the money that they are saving towards their retirement or people that are less vain than I am.the only people who buy the mirage are loosers with bad credit
The ones I have seen under the hoods of were painted gray. Strut towers, cowl and fender supports, etc. Just because it isn't body color doesn't mean it's unpainted.Rio was not awful however mirage never a decent offering that has aged. I'm surprised that's all that the better that Optima does on gas mileage. My '99 Dodge Intrepid got those same numbers in a big sedan and 3.2 Liter V6.many decent sized sedans are fairly priced UNLESS you load them with unnecessary "trinkets". girlfriends roomy 18 0ptima gets 35 plus on highway + mid 20 locally depending on where she drives + its peppy + used NO oil
Hyundai/Kia engines are not very fuel efficient. The other part is Chrysler V6s are fairly efficient for what they are compared to their four-cylinder offerings as well.I'm surprised that's all that the better that Optima does on gas mileage.
