I think that was in reference to the dealer's response. The "newbie" has pictures and probably didn't see a need to join until he had an issue to discuss.
 
That's not looking good, I'd get an oil analyze to further determine how much damage has been done to the engine.
That’s not going to tell you anything you need to know. When I ran oil analysis in college for the fluid power and automotive engineering departments, sometimes really catastrophic failures where chunks of metal come off would not give a grossly poor report. Spectrographic analysis is not used to determine “how much” damage has occurred to an engine.
 
I just find it interesting that the damage happens to be visible and accessible through the oil fill hole.

But I find a lot of things like that interesting.
 
I don't think the cam is to blame for the cosmetic damage on that beam. It was definitely a foreign object, but a metal tool was used to pry it out & extract it.
 
It may be that with the materials shortage, parts that were once discarded for imperfections, are now being used. So long as the blemish is cosmetic in nature only.
