Keurig / Nespresso?

Have used both extensively. I am a bigger fan of the Nespresso machine simply because it's targeted to be slightly more upscale -- I also prefer espresso.

I LOVE my Keurig!!!!! I got it on clearance from a store having a going out of business sale. I practically got it for nothing!

I have a Keurig. I like it, but yeah its expensive but to brew one cup consistently..i enjoy it. Never used the nespresso tho. I guess like dparm said depends what you like regular coffee or espresso. I commonly drink coffee and the odd time for espresso i have an espresso maker.

My mother bought one. My father is amazed that 1) A coffee maker can be so expensive and 2) the amount of engineering that goes into a coffee maker.

Between the two, I prefer Nespresso. Neither one of them makes coffee as good as a proper espresso machine, but Nespresso comes closer. IMO, Keurig is purely for convenience, but the taste is blah, alas, tastes differ, so YMMV.

Also, how much are those Nespresso capsules? Something like $50 for a pack of 50? Good quality espresso ground coffee in a can is significantly cheaper. And even a decent espresso machine can be had for less than $100. Granted, there is an extra step having to clean out the grounds after every cup, so Keurig/Nespresso win on convenience for sure, but I personally don't mind the cleaning. It's quick enough, and the taste is better.

Agree that none of the Keurig coffee flavors are really that remarkable. If you want a basic cup of coffee, they certainly work. If you have a more discerning palate, the Nespresso will be your thing.

Thanks for all the comments -
I only have experience with Keurig 2-3 times, at work.
But a friend of ours has invited us to show her Nespresso on Monday, so I guess we'll have a chance to see what that stuff is like...

From the small amount of reading i did online, Nespresso seems a bit more expensive but a bit closer to the 'real' thing.

We're not seriously planning on getting a Keurig/Nespresso but have become a bit curious, as we've been hearing about them recently from friends/family, etc.

Penelope Cruz is in the Nespresso commercials. Isn't that enough?

George Clooney is a former spokesperson for Nespresso, so that should appease your wife.

If you think Keurig is okay then Nespresso will be okay except that it's a little stronger coffee.

Since I couldn't enjoy Keurig because it's too weak and Nespresso is barely acceptable, I like a strong 1.5-2.0 shots espresso/cappuccino taste. The espresso machine can be expensive, but the cost per cup is much less at around 20-25 cents even with good Italian espresso coffee, so on the long run it's cheaper than either Keurig or Nespresso.

Agreed. The espresso/latte`s you can make with the Nespresso are great. I used one for the first time in a hotel in Chicago, and we liked it so much we bought one. The machine and cups are more expensive than Keurig, but the end product is also much better. Really though, the Nespresso is not for coffee, but espresso. If you want coffee, buy a good coffee machine.

Was it the Conrad on Michigan Ave? I know all the Conrad hotels have those in the rooms (the one in lower Manhattan did).

Does the Nespresso Pixie also have a filter that needs replacing? I scanned through the owner's manual and couldn't find any mention of it, other than the need for periodic descaling of the whole system. Considering getting one of these for my parents for X-Mas.
