I have owned 2 of those engines in '66 Coronets and they are work horses.
He also needs to run a lead substitute in the gas since he has non-hardened valve seats.
Also, have him check the operation of the heat riser in the passenger side exhaust manifold. Most of those get stuck part way closed. Typically, you will feel less backpressure on the passenger side tailpipe, assuming it has dual exhaust. From the factory, I believe the 318 cars just had single exhaust with a cross-over pipe. So, if that were the case, you wouldn't notice it.
They did have a single pipe stock. When he imported it 3 years ago, he had true duals put in. He has daily driven it at least 40km a day from home to school (teacher) for the past 3 years, and used the original Kendall GT-1 20w50 at 2,000 mile intervals (carbureted vehicle with a slight sludge / varnish problem).
The engine is not even close to being tired. It's daily driven every day. It was a great original condition survivor, well kept.

It is suppost to be like that, but like I said above, he has been a loyal Kendall GT-1 user for years @ 2000mile intervals, but you can't get the non-titanium mix anymore. It also costs about $15 bucks more a case too. He runs the 20w50 in the 318.
