First, the oil consumption is minimal. The Subaru people haven't mastered the art of dipstick design so checking oil is more of an art than science. I added about 8 ounces over the interval.
I am not concerned about the Si - that number is pretty low. I agree that a used filter is more efficient than a new one but time will tell.
The use is not as much commuting as much as highway travel. One thing that helps is the fact that I virtually never drive less than 7 miles at a time so there are no short trips.
Now that there are trace indications of coolant in the oil I will not try to stretch the drain. If there is some seepage I want to know about it sooner than later. Oil is cheaper than bearings.
