Kendal 10w30 Chev 5.7ltr engine

I just received this oil analysis from one of my shop's customers that uses kendal 10w30 motor oil.

The had recently rebuilt this motor and had reason to recheck as they had a knocking noise which turned out to be the fuel pump clattering.

Here is the results.

Engine has 675 miles total.

Oil sampled with 175 miles on oil.

Dont know conditions engine is run under.

Has a K&N foam air filter(you'll understand in
a minute why I stated that.)

Very typical of probably 75% of the K&N equipped vehicles oil analysis results I see, showing very high dirt (silicon), along with associated elevated wear metals.
 
I do know that K&Ns let in a lot of dirt, but I also thought that newly rebuilt engines will show a lot of silicon no matter what, just due to the rebuilding process and the gasket material.
 
Good catch Bob! Viscosity is usually one of the first things I spot in an oil analysis, and I didn't even spot that one (must be the small type!)

I'd hate to see how much more it would thin out after a few thousand miles!

Regarding "break-in" numbers.. Yes, absolutely.. It is almost a waste of time running an oil analysis on a new/recently overhauled engine in that analysis results will be skewed in the wear and dirt areas. Analysis is of value if engine was overhauled due to glycol, etc. to determine that had ceased..
And yes, I overlooked the mileage since overhaul; I am so attuned to "K&N"/ high dirt, high wear metals and accepted and did not read carefully after that.. Thank you for the correction, you are right on target...
