What would it be?

There is a 2006 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner that's at a wholesale auction nearby in North Carolina. Just at 100k. New tires. Excellent maintenance history at a nearby Toyota dealership. Pretty much all the nice fat check marks are there for me!

If I wasn't a car dealer by trade, I would have it as my daily driver. What would be yours?

Loved my Jetta wagon for the eleven years I had it. But I was patching holes before the ten mark. I like the idea of taking something to high miles—but its been kinda hard (and too easy to find an excuse to not to).

Your ability to maintain these old vehicles will come down to parts availabilty. PCB's and electronics only last so long.

Possibly some programmable control retrofit industry will materialize to keep them going?
I mean, electronic fuel injection has been around a long time and "required for the vehicle to run" electronics remain reliable or available in some form or fashion. They're generally repairable, because they're pretty simple circuits with mostly off the shelf parts.

There are small business that repair all of the screens, gauges, etc. that liked to die in 90'-00's German cars.

My Trooper as an example. Isuzu doesn't exist and I was still able to get parts.

And there are universal standalone ECU options if you're really determined.

Some people call the dealer or look on Rock Auto and if they don't see what they need the vehicle is "impossible to maintain."

My rust free 2007 Honda Accord EX-L 4 Dr V6 6MT (bought new) with only 190,000 km would be fine for another 20 years, as long as I could get parts.

There are a couple of things missing. I should have bought one with a Nav system (the only available feature mine doesn't have) and a back up camera would be nice. Other than those two things it's perfect.

I had a 2023 Tacoma TuRD as a rental for 3 days and 600 miles.

I am thoroughly confused with the love affair that people have with those trucks. Uncomfortable seating position, poor design inside, a transmission that never really knew what gear it was in, and a 6 cylinder engine with the power of a 4 cylinder... and the fuel economy of an 8 cylinder.

For me the perfect daily would be the GR Corolla. Lots of fun but yet it could also handle the snow pretty well too. Or going in the completely opposite direction, I think an AWD Prius would be a great daily as I’d love to get 60 to 70 MPG 🤓

Isn’t that a 3 year old model, not a 20 year old model?

I bought this 2002 Camry for my Mom on Black Friday, 2001. Her first NEW car. She loved it. It has 60k miles, and has been well maintained by me. I occasionally take it out for drives.

The Toyota Dealer who performed the emissions test on it recently REALLY wants to buy it, as I've been getting regular Email offers from them. They were gushing over it while it was there. It looks and drives like brand new.
