Time for 1st oil change Kawasaki FR651-V on my new Cub Cadet. Kawasaki's Ktech 10w/40 appears to not be Synthetic. Why not? Would a synthetic 10w/40 be bad. I have been using Mobil ! full synthetic in my Kohler push mower engine for years.

How about oil and air filters?

I've had 5W-30,10W-30, and now 5W-40 Euro in my FR600V. It runs just fine on any although it really drank the 5W-30. I have some Delo XSP 15W-40 on hand for the next OCI. What's your operating environment? Anything in 40 grade would be a safe bet or even Mobil 15W-50.

The stock Kawasaki oil filter is tiny and overpriced. If you have the room I recommend Carquest Premium 85348, Wix 51348, or any Fram 3614(if you can find any).

For air filter stick with OEM. Aftermarket can be hit or miss in quality.

1st oil change is always special.

Subpar Oil!

It would be Good!

A push mower is a push mower, does your Cub Cadet with this Kawasaki Motor have the engine in the front or rear? Riding Mower has engine in the front, and zero turn mower has engine in the rear!

Nothing wrong with a 10w-40 off the shelf. If you want to run Synthetic why not?

Does anyone remember back in the 70's and 80's running SAE-30 in our mowers ? I used Castrol SAE-30 because it was the clearest oil that I found. A clearer oil is better, right? 😁

The equipment the engine is attached to usually does not outlast the engine, especially if you maintain the engine properly. These engines rarely reach 2000 hrs which is easily handled by a quality API rated engine oil. Better oils are better for sure and they do cost more. I'm sure the 10w40 from Kawasaki is more than good enough and made sense to their marketing & supply departments.

We still use Deere SAE 30 in most of the summer use equipment. If it's not being used below freezing then SAE 30 can handle it and cost less in the process.

FS691V here

Changed the oil with cheap 10w30 every 5 hours for the first 20hrs or so, then Amsoil Small Engine 10w30 every 100 hrs regardless of season. Some say if you don't use a 40 in Kawasakis they will burn it but that is not my experience. Great engine, currently at 420hrs.

Saw 10W/40, and others but no API
Mine says SL, which is why I went with Small Engine oil. Was going to switch to HPL small engine but the mower got sold last night.

Its the same as any other air cooled motor. It maxes out at 3600 RPMs, you could literally run anything in it. Mine presently has Mobil 1 Euro 0w40 in it but I've ran all sorts of weight oils without issue.
