I was at AutoZone yesterday, and I opened a box w/ a K/N filter in it, and it was sealed with some kind of plastic wrapping. I got a drive works filter at advance auto one time, and it was wrapped with the same sort of plastic mess. Is K/N related to this Chinese drive works outfit in any way?

I was in Canadian Tire yesterday browsing, and noticed the K&N oil and air filter section. I wanted to check the K&N oil filters because I heard they are now made offshore. Get this - on the bottom of the boxes it said in very small print "See product for country of origin".
I opened a box - filter said "Made in Korea" on it.
I opened two other smaller boxes. They might have been for motorcycles, I am not familiar with K&N numbers. Both of the smaller filters were spin on filters with metal housing and wrench nut on the end. One of the filters - Made in Korea. The other filter - MADE IN CHINA!!!! These filters were priced at $24.99 each.
I am not sure how being Made in China is going help their quality and future sales.

Because K&N is a USA Company or was. People hold USA standards higher than those in China maybe? Its a prejudice that continues to this day.

Ironically, My Samsung smart phone has Qualcom components in it which are made right here in San Diego, CA. Go Figure haha.

Because K&N is a USA Company or was. People hold USA standards higher than those in China maybe? Its a prejudice that continues to this day.

Ironically, My Samsung smart phone has Qualcom components in it which are made right here in San Diego, CA. Go Figure haha.

The whole debate about Chinese quality is off track. Yes, most things from China is build in cheap quality. Because it is supposed to be sold cheap. It doesn't mean it,s not possible for chineese factorys to make high quality.
And a bit of fun fact that should make the American worker think. A Danish windmill factory just closed 2 factorys here. In all 7600 workers got fired. They moved the factorys to the US. Because the workers are cheaper.

Just speculating, but Hyundai/Kia filters come wrapped the same way. Maybe the new K&N filters are produced by Dongwoo, the same people making Hyundai/Kia OEM filters. They are a subsidiary of Mann Hummel.

K&N's automotive oil filters used to be made by Champion. Their motorcycle oil filters are made by HiFlo Filtro of Thailand.
Inspected one today. It felt very light and very cheap. Too bad, at least Mobil 1 filters are still made here.

I can't think of one thing that is made in China that is higher quality than can be made here or somewhere else.
The thing that really concerns me about Chinese stuff is contamination. Lead contamination, other heavy metal contamination, or just about anything else, pesticides, cleaners etc etc. There are warnings on Chinese Christmas lights to wash your hands after handling.

Hello, I bought a jar of beautiful red strawberries in syrup from China. My sister (who is a chemist) screamed at me and threw them away. There was no discussion. Their food products are all about appearance contaminates. Kira

Food product origin labeling needs to be more prominent on the pkg, so it is more evident from what country the food came from. I do look for the USA on food products in the grocery. I'm also okay with produce from Canada and Mexico. Particularly fond of a product distilled in Mexico from the Blue Agave plant...
