Hi! I'm new to the forum and just wanted to know, What do people think about the K&N performance gold oil filters? I'm the type that doesnt believe the hype on the box, so what do people think about them?

I disagree with AstroVic, I think the K&Ns are an excellent value. They flow extremely well and are built very tough. You won't find a filter with the burst strength of the K&N at a lower price.

I've seen excellent oil analysis results using the K&N oil filter. I will keep using it as long as it's available.

I agree with Astrovic. Several very good filters with great build quality and flow/filtration but at less cost. Purolator, Baldwin, Motorcraft, and ACDelco come to mind. All very good filters for anywhere between $3 to $6 US greenbacks. K&N and a few others, i.e. Amsoil, Fram X2, Mobil 1, etc. are usually around the $9 to $12 range. As always... I'm a Baldwin fan

I had good UOA's with my K&N's, however I recently switched to Baldwins. I think the K&N is an excellent filter, but the Baldwin should be as good (or at least nearly so) for a lot less.

I purchase both via the web, so shipping on both for me is a wash (worth it to me so I don't have to fight the stores).

I agree with ASTROVIC by the way how many Filters have you seen that dont flow well & Burst.

OK, maybe you won't end up bursting a filter, but for those of you who have filters which sit at the bottom of the engine, and could get hit by debris, you'll appreciate the fact that the K&N filter uses such a thick canister.

If your buying or flow, you'd be better off saving some money and buying a Purolator. The only unique thing is the durable construction, which I could only think might be useful on a off-road vehicle with the filter exposed.

I have run K+N vs. Motorcraft on my Lightning and the valve train seems a bit quieter with the higher flow of the K+N so have been sticking with it. I'll get around to another analysis in the spring, but the Motorcraft was fine on 5w-20 Motorcraft oil.
True, bit overpriced at retail.

i've used K&N for a few years and like them but i noticed that the prices have gone up from $9.89 to $11.88, so i'm probably going to switch and try something else.

Nice filter. High rate of flow, and built like a tank. But worth TWICE a Baldwin?

Or FOUR Motorcrafts? Or SIX Wally World's?

I use them sometimes on my truck for that reason if I know I'm going off-roading.
If you're worried about K&N filtering effectiveness....
K&N vs. Mobil 1 filter UOA

I did notice on my wife's old car that with the M1 and K&N filters there was no start-up rattle whereas it did rattle with AC and SuperTech filters. This may not be an issue with every engine.

For a decent price on the K&N filter just do some internet searches. I buy mine 3 at a time to get free shipping and I pay $ 8.97 each with no sales tax.

Okay, where can you get them for that price.

I use them on one car and like them, as I change it once every 6 months the cost is not a great factor
