K&N filters

I have two cars. A toyota tacoma and a Honda Pilot. I would like to know what are the best Oil Filters for these two cars. I really like K&N filters but, are they the best? thanks mv

Others can give you an opinion on the Honda, but if I was running a stock type filter on a Toyota I'd use one of the made in Japan Denso filters available from the dealer.

There's been a lot of discussion about these. Search should get you a bunch of info...

I use K&N bc it is built like a tank. It is a compromise between very high filter efficiency but its flow is supposedly the best. I use the oversize model K&N HP-2009. I believe that the 3001 which is huge is useable.

I just bought a new K&N over the weekend and noticed that they no longer have the rounded gasket. It has the flat style, just like all the other filters...for whatever that's worth.

I used a K&N oil filter on a 3.5L isuzu engine with Red Line oil. The numbers are pretty good considering the use and the 8,000 mile interval. It's posted in the UOA gas engine section.

K&N oil filters are made by Champion Laboratories, makers of Champ, Lee, Mobil 1, Bosch Premium, STP, SuperTech, Luberfiner, and maybe other brands. The K&N labeled oil filters have average filtration and high flow rates suitable for modified engines with high flow oil pumps. These filters are OK, but for a stock engine, probably not worth the extra cost.

Best?...who knows. You'll get several hundred thousand of miles out of these engines with OEM filters, and probably just about as many miles with cheapo Frams. I like OEM, Baldwin/Hastings, WIX/NAPA-Gold, ACDelco, Bosch Premium and Purolator. I use OEM filters on my family's vehicles.
