Best filter for synthetic oil

Despite any marketing drivel you might have read, oil filters are not designed for specific oil types. Any filter media will work with conventional or synthetic oil.
Thank you Silent Type.. I’ve ran Wix XP often and thought there was something special about the media in it working with synthetic oil. I had a bad Wix recently- could see media wasn’t secure & folded under flow holes. Swapped for another all is well. But if Wix quality isn’t that great, how about you going to a Baldwin filter? I’m under the impression Baldwin & Napa Gold or their next best one are good choices.

Baldwin was good in 1970.....
You'll get the PG boys soon

CarQuest Premium oil filters seem to be one of the top performing (99.5% at 20 micron) and well priced engine oil filters. There are similar filters from Premium Guard, MicroGard and others.

I’m

PG? I’m not familiar with that acronym yet.

Premium Guard contracts with factories in Asia that make the Carquest Premium and Synthetic EP at Advance Auto Parts , Microgard Select at Oreilly's , STP Extended Life at Autozone , Napa Gold at Napa Auto Parts and some other lesser known brands.

Browse through these and try to find a bad quality filter : Carquest Premium

Whats everyone’s go to filter for Mobile 1 synthetic? Cars are 2020 Toyota Rav 4, and 2022 Toyota Camry (4cyl).
Thank you,

Sadly many filters seemed to be in a race to the bottom of quality.

The Premium Guard "umbrella" covers many versions/brands and can be found here referenced often. Any brand can have a bad filter, it happens but the PG are at least still highly regarded IMO.

Depending how much you change oil and end up with a stash of sale oil from the links in the rebates/sales thread, the bundle deals at Advance Auto Parts and Autozone work out well. I prefer the Carquest Premium, Carquest EP or even regular. Autozone when I went still had STP filters made by others on the ones I checked but that has been a while. If you have O'Reilly's then it it would be MicroGuard or MicroGuard Select. Napa Gold should also be from PG.

Welcome to BITOG.

Now we will need other details about vehicles. Do any burn oil? What are your driving conditions (local/highway)? What oil change interval do you follow, a set mileage or maintenance minder? All of those will impact what else we may recommend for oil choices and viscosities. They will be influenced by what we like and recommend but may not always be best for you, in your motor, in your usage conditions.

Have you ever done a used oil analysis? Do you plan to? Search on that here also for labs that we like better than others especially with GDI (gas direct injection) motors, short trips and possible fuel dilution concerns.

Certainly! Our daily’s are 2022 Toyota Camry (SE AWD 4cyl) and my wife’s 2020 Toyota Rav 4. Neither burn oil, driving conditions are mostly short in town runs to work - no time for oil to get up to temp. We certainly do get out on the highway too. Highway trips are at least 25 miles away to 150 miles from home. OCI is usually about 4,000 miles on each car. I go by miles & not via the Maintenance Required light on the dash. I’ve been running Mobile 1 with a Wix XP on the Camry, and OEM Toyota filters on the Rav 4 and Mobile 1. Wix doesn’t seem to make the XP for the Ravvy surprisingly enough. I realize I may be changing oil more often than needed, but such short trips to work in a small town can’t be good on oil (fuel dilution). I have sent in used oil from my drag car to Blackstone, but not the Toyotas. I do run the 0w-16 in the winter months, and 5w-20 in the summer heat. Any other info just ask away. I appreciate your help.

I'm running the Toyota OEM filter on my 2024 Rav4 (same engine as in both your cars). I get them at the local dealership for less than similar filters from Walmart. They also throw in a new oil plug crush washer.

I change oil and filter every 5000 miles and the oil looks rather clean still. I'm thinking I can just leave the filter on for 10K, because there's not much in the oil to catch. I did the same on my 2019 4Runner 4.0 V6 for 50K miles. Oil always looked clean.
