Justice Brothers CVT Conditioner

The fluid has to be at a specific temperature before removing the checkbolt. Your CVT is likely underfilled now.
I had the engine running, idling at 180 degrees while I let the overflow drain out. I drained it right after I got home from Autozone, except for the maybe 6 or 7 minutes it took me to raise the car on jack stands. I put back the exact same amount of Valvoline fluid minus the nearly half a quart of overfilled Nissan fluid that I had drained out. It was just over 3 quarts. I did this job as much by the book as I could, with guidance from a Master Nissan Technician and a few other very knowlegeable guys on a well respected Nissan Technical Forum. The car runs and drives fine and the CVT does not act like there are any problems at all.

There is a screen in the CVT that can be accessed with the pan removed but you don't really replace it, all that is done on it is to blow it clean with an air compressor or just clean it with WD40 or some other solvent.
With Nissan's step shift transmissions, I agree, the screen is usually fine. Nissan CVT not so much, the last one I did, a neglected Versa, the screen was pretty bad in terms of debris caught in it. I replaced it along with the cartridge filter and fluid.

I recommend doing a pan drop, magnet/pan cleaning and cartridge replacement with your next fluid change.

Thanks. I am going to read up on this and study it to learn how to do it. If it looks like something I should not be doing I will find a professional indy transmission shop to do it.

Trans temp does not equal coolant temp.

If you use the overflow plug, the trans fluid must be at around 104f. IME there’s a significant difference in fluid volume between 104F and say, 140F.

(Instructions are for a 16 but should be the same as yours, same trans)

Nissan did introduce a dipstick that allows for the fluid level to be adjusted at 170-180f, so you may want to look into that option.

Thanks, I am looking now to see if I can get the dipstick. So far the cheapest price I found on it is $250.00.

Do you have a IR temp gun? It isn’t as accurate as retrieving temp data from internal sensors, but it will get you close.

If you start with a vehicle that has been sitting overnight, depending on your ambient temp, you can probably get to 104f by idling for 5-10min.

I have the Veepeak adapter and tried CVTz50, never could get it to work, it keeps losing the connection to the adapter. I tried the OBD2 Car Scanner app. It was also supposed to read CVT temps. It showed everything but that.

I do have a IR temp gun, it's from HF but it works fine. I did not use it though when I did my drain and fill. I will use it on the next one though.

Thanks

Try going into the settings and also contacting the developer. They've been very helpful for me.

I was having connection issues until I got the VP11 and am now using the OBDLink MX+ but it seems to work as well as the VP11.

CVTz50 offers a wealth of info that's difficult to get without a $$$$ scanner (even with it).
