I don't know if they answered this question on the forum or not but I basically asked him about Ultra and extended drains and he told me that Ultra will stand up to what ever your owners manual calls for be it 5000, 10,000, or 15,000 miles.

That question was answered in the Q&A - that Ultra was good for ANY interval specified by a manufacturer.

Why are people down on it for not being an extended drain oil then?

I have no doubt this oil could hold up as long as Mobil 1 EP/Amsoil (not SSO).

Thats a pretty bold statement with not even 1 example to show if it is anywhere near accurate.

I would think a UOA on Pennzoil Ultra would let us know how long this oil could go.

They are being careful to say follow mfr.'s OCI. They are going after the clean engine fanatics with this oil, not the extended drain people. Not sure how that will work out for them.

Mid next week we will have my UOA. I will be dumping monday and overnighting to [censored]. depending on how much tooling around I do in SD it should be between 7800 and 8100 miles when I return in the F150.This will be a pretty good test. My wife drives it like she stole it and it's not a little honda car.

The fact that Pennzoil will NOT guarantee a certain extended interval like Mobil does with M1 EP speaks volumes about the product...

I would say Pennzoil did enough testing under a variety of conditions to be able to give that answer. I imagine they do hire some decent chemical engineers.

It is a bold statement, and I don't have any proof it can go that far, but I trust Shell. The oil has a nice starting Tbn and is their premium offering so I think it's safe to assume it's capable. Time will tell.

I would disagree. It is just two different marketing approaches.

Wonderful! Happy to get a UOA. Watch it be identical to Platinum except for some extra cleaning additives.

honestly i dont suspect lower wear numbers compared to redline that it was on before. Maybe better retention though. I guess we shall see. i'm going to cut the filter also. I dont suspect anything there as the engine should be spotless already

For some reason, your original post was censored.

Mobil says "Please follow the recommendations in your owner's manual while your car is under warranty." in re: to EP.

Amsoil doesn't. I guess the volume is relative. 8)

I said b-s without the dash so the censor picked it up

Did you happen to get the name of the person you talked with?
