My poor XT4 only has 6,800 miles on it and I've already had the windshield repaired for a repairable chip (paid out of pocket for that one) well apparently there was another chip I didn't know about under the wiper in the blacked out portion of the glass. When I first saw it I thought it was a stress crack, but upon further inspection from outside the vehicle it was clear the glass was pitted and the crack was the result of a stone. With the camera calibration and everything required on new cars, I decided to just file a claim rather than absorb the likely $1,000+ replacement cost.

Allstate made it super easy, just log in to your account, click file a claim and a few other things and you can make an appointment directly with Safelite, took less than 2 minutes.

Hope my insurance doesn't go up and Safelite does a good job on the replacement. I don't care if it's OE glass or not, I just don't want any air/water leaks or any of the trim damaged.

Wish me luck, Safelite hasn't let me down yet...I tried another company once and it was a disaster. My luck with windshields isn't good, even had a stone crack one in a rental car once!

They mine gravel by us - lost count of how many and yes - sadly they can be just a year or two old …

I feel your pain. Just turned 5000 miles on our Frontier and had a car throw a rock that put a small chip in the windshield. It's not enough of a chip to worry about but it's right in my direct sight line of sight looking out the driver's seat. Just enough to be irritating if I think about it when I get in to drive.

The glass claims show up on Lexis/Nexus.The rub is some insurance companies consider the claim against you while others do not.
Ask me how I know.....supposedly Allstate does not-according to an agent I spoke to.

NY has gotten really bad, even for NY. Glass counts against you as a claim and an animal hit with comprehensive counts as a premium increase as well. I have a 17 Outback with a large crack I won't fix due to it. I wish it didn't have EyeSite. I've been friendly with my Ins broker for 20+ years. His biggest issue is the rampant dropping of insured persons for any available reason. We get a good number of deer and coyote hits in my geographical area.

Generally your glass coverage will fall under comp, which at least in this state isn't going to change your premium.

Some people claim that the collision avoidance systems work the same without reprogramming the glass in many instances. But yea reprogramming is a big money makes for the glass shops.

I have USAA, they hold everything against you. If a neighbor has an accident, you live close enough to them where it affects you too....

I'm looking to jump ship with them, saddens me. Had them forever.

The direct line of site seals the deal for me. It's distracting and irritating. If it was my vehicle-it would be replaced.

I usually pay out-of-pocket for cracked windshields to keep it off insurance records.
But now they cost so much... What's a poor boy to do?

My dilemma as well. I pay an endorsement for glass coverage, so it would be silly to pay out of pocket to replace this windshield. Guess I'll find out.

I added "Glass Coverage" & just pay a $50 deductible but it does increase the cost. Think mine increased premium by $26 a year so keep that in mind. Safelite has been heavy pushing for quality glass repair & I think they've done a good job so far. I only use a local guy for the last 17 years so it's hard to jump away.

That is a bummer on such a new car. For me it's not about the glass itself. It's about having to break that factory seal so to speak and the damage that can occur on the removal and installation (quality of the install).

I filed a glass claim on my Versa a few months back through my carrier, NY Central Mutual. Super easy online process. I hadn't been a Safelite fan for years, but the young fella who came to my house to do the replacement in my garage was excellent and did an excellent job. This was on the rear glass of my versa. I went right through it with a broom, trying to clear almost 3ft of snow/ice off the vehicle. The rear glass basically shattered into the vehicle along with a mass quantity of snow! That was fun.

Yes, these $1K plus run-o-the-mill glass replacements because of all cameras and sensors is going to take it's toll on our pockets.

The other scary thing is, on some of the Chevy boards I'm on, owners of 2025 Equinox's couldn't find replacement windshields for a period of time. In some cases, their vehicles sat for months until replacement glass became available. This effected other GM models as well.

Little sympathy here. Annual or biannual replacements are normal. Can't get glass insurance here under most policies.

This is why I insist only on TriVal (Pilkington).

We have the evil terrible Fuyao glass manufacturer not far away and I’ve had two of those, never again.

My insurance wanted an extra an extra $1300 on top of my deductible for oem glass so I got stuck with Fuyao. Daytime reflection and light refraction at night is noticeably worse.

Glass claims are a non-issue in AZ.

The GX550 has 8 chips and 3 cracks. It’s a mess. Some of the chips are huge. But I heard there’s a huge waitlist for windshields on them so we haven’t filed a claim yet.
