I knew that this time would come. Especially with it sitting inside a body shop for almost a month this spring, there was stuff sitting all over the paint. Considering that the truck is a 2004, it was time.

So far, so good. I actually had to do the hood twice, I think I quit too soon on the first pass. I found some areas that I strongly suspect was paint and clearcoat overspray, on a few of the panels that the body shop didn't paint... and on some of the glass as well.

Taking a break before I head back out to start polishing it. This is a full size extended cab pickup with painted flat lid, after all.

I burned through an entire bottle of detailer, but that's OK. I wanted there to be plenty of 'lube' for the clay bar. I'll probably do the motorcycle tomorrow, it shouldn't take nearly as long.

Hopefully, I'll get some pictures posted yet today...

If you want to know if you are really done, put a baggie or saran wrap around you hand and run it over the lubed paint. You will feel stuff you would have sworn you got rid of.

Or, you might not want to know.

Soapy water will cause your clay bar to disintegrate. At least it did for me.

If you can get a product called Optimum No Rinse, it has instructions on the label for making clay lube. I think 2oz per gallon.

Even at 8 ounces a gallon, that stuff is very questionable. It is not very slick and I think it is responsible for a number of swirls on my car.

No... for sure I'm done. Anything I missed can wait for the next time... assuming there IS a next time...

Considering the truck is a 2004, and this is 2010... it'll be due again in 2016.

I used some Black Magic (which is actually owned by SOPUS) QD that was literally free after a rebate... so it wasn't a huge loss.

Rubbing off polish right now, nearly half done. I wish it were a little less humid today, so it would come off a bit easier.

It has been a while since I've read around @ Autopia, but my original understanding is that ONR isn't supposed to feel slick, but is designed to encapsulate dirt so that it can be pulled into a medium like a towel or mitt.

As a rinseless wash, it saves me a lot of time when I just want to shine up the paint without going to the work of using a bucket and hose. As far as scratches go, this is more dependent on what type of towels you use.

I used it as a claybar lube this weekend and it worked fine. I usually will soak a large grout sponge into the mixture and use that to lubricate the paint.

Newbie Question - I'm about to clay my vehicle before applying Collinite 845. I've never clayed before. So do you rub it in circles or in a straight line (going with the airflow)?

Most of us go in a back & forth motion, but you can do it in circles, too. As long as you use enough clay lubricant, the motion doesn't matter a whole lot.
