Just [censored] Good Oil

In the interest of controversy. How is everyone liking these new Quaker State Ads with the tag line "just [censored] good oil" ? I thought the radio ad I heard was funny, kind of low class.

Quaker State used to have advertising like this; "we put it in writing"



The radio ad I heard sounded like they are after a market that doesn't like to read or write. But then I look around online and I see all these clever ads with the tag line at the end. No [censored]. Just [censored] Good Oil

I'm guessing this is the first time on here you couldn't quote an advertisement from an oil company without being censored.

I believe the "we put it in writing" ads (1982) stem from a problem Quaker State had with oil damaging engines in cold weather in 1981. As I remember the event gave Quaker State quite a "black eye".

I agree the commercials are annoying. They'll eventually move on to something else. I didn't like Castrols ads for years either. I still use both oils in our cars...not because I now know it's d$%m good oil because the commercials told me so.

I agree their marketing is a little offensive. I don't care about the D word, but it seems like they are marketing to a bunch of bucket heads. So did Castrol.

Mobil 1 has always seemed to be fairly intelligent in their advertising....although I still have lots of car guy buddies that say "I'll only use Mobil 1, its the only true synthetic" lol

Maybe a lot of car guys are a bunch of bucket heads and QS knows their audience.

p.s...I'm a car guy....no offense.

Same group of people who use the lowest line of Amsoil, Redline boutique oils and claim it's better than offerings by Mobil 1 or Castrol. "Well it's more expensive, must be better!"

I know that there are many people obviously that use Quaker State but its just not a brand loyal oil like it used to be.

I think the last time I used it was when Big Lots had Quaker State 4X4 on clearance..that was back when they decided to use clear bottles.

Does the oil in the bottle even come from PA?

The ad appears to target folks less obsessed than the BITOG crowd - but IMO they offer several quality oils ...
If I see Quaker State Ultimate Durability on sale, I'd grab some ...

No (at least as far as I know).

4WD in the first sentence said it correctly. BITOG members are obsessed with oil and filters. The majority of people are not, and could care less what oil and filter is used with their vehicles. And their vehicles will last just as long as our normally. Crazy isn't it.

WS also has locality-specific advertising. These were at Pennsylvania 30th St. Station in Philadelphia.

If I remember correctly Brad Penn oil is currently from the same refinery as QS used to be before it became corporate decades ago.

A quick check told me that Brad Penn isn't Brad Penn anymore - it went corporate, too.

I thought it was running out of the old Kendall refinery.
