I am running Mobil 1 15W 50 EP, in my 1988 chevy 4/4 1/2 ton 350 TBI work truck , with 300K , have been useing Mobil 1 15W 50 EP for about 1 year now, have to add about 1/2 quart at 10k then i change at 15k , my ? is should i be running this oil in the winter or use the Mobil 1 Truck and Suv ( 5W 40 ), never have used it before, but have heard good things about it, i live in Kentucky, and the winters here do not get that cold, sometimes 0 but very seldem, and i use the ST Ecore filter, i have cut them open after oil change and they are very dirty , but they are still in great shape, the end caps are on there perfect!!!, the truck gets about 30k + a year on it, thanks guys for any info.

Sounds like an almost perfect routine to me. I might up grade the filter to Pureolator or K&N but I would not worry about the oil grade under your circumstances. The 15w50 flows better than many dino 5w30's. My 86 Chevy was leaking more than you are using. The thicker oil might be helping as far as seepage.

Manicrodder: Mobil used to advertise this but its not true anymore 15w50 Mobil 1 will not flow better than 5w30 HAVOLINE . Try this test take 15w50 Mobil 1 and 5w30 HAVOLINE put the exact same amount in cups and leave in your freezer overnight then see which one flows faster,I guarantee the 5w30 HAVOLINE will. DRAFTMASTER I would use 10w30 HAVOLINE SYNTHETIC all year long in your location. If you want to use Mobil 1 the 5 w40 would be a better choice in the winter. Dont use 15w50 under 20F, even a synthetic.

drums57:
Mobil specs pour point of -32 for Drive Clean 5000 5w30 and -42 for EP 15w50. My opinion was mostly influenced by the 300K on the engine. None of the oil companies say much about the heavier grade oils these days.
