Today I swore into the United States Army after attending my MEPS physical. I scored a 91 on my ASVAB and came near to maxing out all of my sub-scores (GT,ST,etc). I'm enlisting for a 5 year active duty slot as an 89D (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist). The position has been reserved for me and the only thing I'm waiting on is the go ahead to have my Top Secret clearance process commence, due to a ticket I received in Tennessee 2 years ago which they seem to not have record of. Fingers crossed for that, hoping everything goes very smoothly and I won't run into any issues. Ship out to basic in Fort Jackson, South Carolina for 9 weeks, then 39 weeks at AIT in Fort Lee, Virginia. EOD school has a 70% attrition rate from what I have heard but I believe I will be perfectly fine. Mandatory 2 year deployment in a foreign country afterwards doing my job. Private EOD/UXO companies pay upwards of $250k for trained ex-military EOD guys so I'll be looking forward to that afterwards.

I'm the one in the middle wearing the AMG shirt, my overall stance could definitely use work but hey, it was my first time of many to come.

Good for you! Please use this opportunity as something more than a way to make money in the future. Make a lot of new friends and see what experiences this world has to offer because when you get old it's the experiences that you treasure most. Aim high, young man. Congratulations and work hard.

thanks guys, i cant wait to be travelling the world and doing this. i know its a fairly dangerous job but you cant be afraid to live the life you really want to, you only get one after all. im just hoping my security clearance works out now...it really has me nervous.

heres a video of the ceremony that my mother took for anyone interested.

Thank you!!!

Be safe. Be smart. I have to think we will win by being smart.

Yeah you might be burned out after five years, looking for something completely different, but do what you want.

Congratulations and again, thank you very much.
