Does anyone have any detailed information on the JD 5w-40 synthetic plus 50 oil. I contacted JD without any results. I'm looking to see who makes it, if anyone has good luck with it, what group base stock, how it compares to other synthetic 5w-40s.

It might depend on where you are, do you have a bottle? Product of USA?

Pick a name brand off the shelf many good ones to choose the JD is not going to be a bad one but nothing special.

How much do they want for this at the dealer you're looking at? I'd never pay $39 a gallon for it which is what i'm seeing. Delvac esp 5w-40 is much cheaper and most likely better formulated.

It's a heavy 5w40 CK-4. HTHS is 4.0. Pour point is -51c which is good, and indicates there is some PAO in it.

I would guess this stuff has lower ZDDP for catalyst protection and does not have 1000 ppm of phosphorus to meet the ford specification. Probably 800-900 P. At one time in the past, Shell made the 0w40. No idea who makes it now but it does not appear to be a T6 clone.

SDS isn't very helpful. You can find it here. https://www.deere.com/en/parts-and-service/safety/

John Deere is very proud of their parts and fluids. I use a no-zinc hydraulic fluid that is hard to find for my mini excavator and its about $200.00 per 5 gallon pail.

But engine oil can be found cheaper with excellent quality. I have Rotella T6 in my machine now (the horror!) but will change to Amsoil I think this round. Lots of good choices with Delo, Delvac, etc.

Heck super tech is as good or better
Wait, there's a Super Tech 5w40 CK-4 now?

Sounds like Delo 5w-40 to me.

Not likely. Delo's SDS doesn't list any PAO and the Pour Point is -46c. HTHS is also 4.2, another discrepancy.

It's probably not a clone of another off-the-shelf brand and made specifically for JD.

No other HDEO sold by a blender or manufacter has a PAO formula $10 a qt. I don't think the price is unreasonable for the Group IV ingredients.

Someone should do a VOA so we can see what it looks like, in the name of science and the forum.
