John Deere Plus 50 II 0W40 - Mazda 6 2.3L

Waste of good oil and short winterish covid run. I usually change the oil twice a year (before and after our Canadian winters), and couldn't get myself not to do it this year. Oil in use for 9 1/2 months. Car is a 2007 2.3L Mazda 6. Previous UOA was Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40.

Since I've been working from home, no more winter commuting, so this run is mainly relatively short highway runs (if you could call our roads highways...), with a lot of winter idling and "moving the car" runs (literally moving the car from one side to the street to the other when needed for the snow removal process).

Interestingly, the TBN for that JD oil (supposedly it's starting at 10.5 according to their PDF I believe) ended up lower than previous Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck longer run.

(oil analyzed here was Canadian made/blended, oil filter was a Wix XP)

Probably could have run it another 9 months or more. Wear practically nonexistent. TBN 5.8, that's not much below what the new school starburst stuff starts at.

Looks like you could definitely pull a yearly OCI @ 3k miles and still be within 50% of the original TBN.

Seeing as this run isn’t “normal” or typical use, it’s hard to judge.
